There was a taco bell here in st.Thomas years ago when cinima one was by the post office in sugar estate. It was pretty disappointing. Can't say I was impressed with the franchise. Much rather have a red lobster, a publix, Sam's club, and of course a target or year's!
What can I say, I feel options and shopping deprived!

There were a lot of rumors of one being built in F'sted a year ago or so.
Didn't happen, apparently. I wouldn't be eating there even if one was built.

The Krispy Kreme stores used to have a huge window in front of the doughnut making area so people could see those hit, glistening doughnuts coming off the assembly line. They would publish baking times so people knew when to get there for hot doughnuts. It was a huge draw for both residents and tourists.

Used to love the Tom Thumb doughnuts from state fairs! Don't need them here, though.

I, too, miss fresh turnip and mustard greens. I tried the Margaret Holmes brand of canned greens and they were surprisingly good. I think they have seasoned versions, but I buy the non seasoned and season myself. They're a great value, imo.

I miss access to a variety of fresh vegetables. Don't trust buying asparagus, artichokes, string beans et al here.

Would love to see horchata mix here. Couldn't even find it in Ft Lauderdale.

Many of the bars on St Thomas now sell reasonable tacos, so I can usually get that craving satisfied.

Would love some Church's Fried Chicken fried okra! Guess I'd better figure out how to make those. Gonna google for recipe...

Maybe they mean stone fruit that ripens & tastes properly, lettuce that doesn't' go slimey within days of bringing it home and strawberries that don't get moldy by the 2nd day in the refrigerator, corn that's not already dried out when purchased, etc.

It's better than it used to be but a long way from truly fresh & delicious.

The local farmers markets are great for some fresh local produce like bush tea, pumpkin, avocados, etc, but selection is always limited compared to Stateside markets.

Please post if somebody offers asparagus and artichokes grown locally.

You haven't discovered "green bags" yet? I've been using them for YEARS and can't be without them. Inexpensive, different sizes, reusable many times over and my fruits and veggies last for weeks.

I've had good luck with the asparagus from Cost u Less. Much of it is exactly as posted (not very good). Also there has been a young Man and his father selling really good home grown lettuce just outside the door on the way out.

What I missed the most on St. Thomas was fresh REAL 100% whole milk and white bread that was fresh. Back in the early 70's about as close as you could get to fresh milk was this stuff they made with powdered milk added to whole milk to stretch it a little further. Oh and fresh watermelon. In 1974 I bought a huge watermelon near TuTu at a roadside fruit stand for $8.00. When I got home, my wife had a hissy fit because I spent $8.00 on a watermelon. But it was one of the biggest melons I had ever seen even to this day.

I used them for awhile but frankly didn't see a big difference in how things lasted. Glad you had better luck.

I've been using them for years and swear by them - but I think a problem that many people have with them is that they put produce in them which isn't completely dry. Washing off produce and not letting it completely dry before bagging is a guarantee for their failure to work.
