Are tinted windows legal on vehicles in the VIrgin Islands? I'm reffering specifically to the driver and passenger windows, and is there a limit on the darkness of the tinted window ? Anyone...anyone ??? Thanks

No actual persentage as yet. It is allowed if you can be seen from 25 feet away! Depends on who's checking, whether you get caught or not!

What's the best place to get it done? I've seen a place west of town, on route 38 I think, anyways it's the road that briefly parallels and then reconnects to the main road to the airport right by Nisky. Is that the best place to go?

Also can anyone recommend a good body shop for import cars? Specifically I'm looking to get a new side mirror and maybe a bumper for a Nissan Altima.

Carib, I think that you are talking about Tint King. Behind Bellows Int'l on the road that goes past the cemetary?
Re. the tint...Ronnie is right. It is completely up to the discretion of teh examiner whether you have too much tint. There are cars here that are completely pitch black on the sides and the front! To be on the safe side though, I woul dgo with a moderate tint and also buy one of those ugly fold-out panels to put in teh front window temporarily. They do deflect some of the heat.

I paid cash here in the states to have the car tinted. 5% I think it is. Also, I have an 8" strip across the front window. I hope it will not be a problem, although I suspect when the car is inspected at the port I might find out! Oh well. =)

Tint King, thanks Onika, I will check it out.

5% tint should be no problem. I've seen cars here and elsewhere in the Caribbean with well over 50%, I am sure.

You'll fit right it with the strip across the top of the windshield, though if you really want to look local you should get a slogan stenciled on... "JAH LIVES" "GOD BLESS TAXI" etc...

When I say 5%, I mean 5% light shows through......

oh, gotcha. That's pretty dark but I bet you will still be okay. If you pay someone to get your car registered and licensed I'm sure he can grease the right palms and make it happen.
