I have a '95 nissian altima that's in great shape, but has 180,000 miles (freeway miles if it makes a diference). I don't even know what i could sell it for am wondering if the cost of getting it shipped is more than the cars worth.
thanks, alaina

As of 6 months ago when i did the research myself, Tropical Shipping ( port of Palm Beach, Florida) ships cars for a flat rate($1020.00 for an auto under 700 cubic feet) Ships out on Thursdays and Fridays. Car needs to be there before noon the day before shipping. When not busy it can take 3-4 days to arrive. If they are backed up, it could take a few weeks. www.tropical.com (561) 881-3900 call as prices may have changed. Most people sell the car that may not be worth anything to them and will buy a new one when they get there. Beware, prices are higher out there. Any thing foriegn made will cost you extra money. Also, their is lots of headache involved with shipping a car. Lots of places to go to get paperwork and can cost you 100's more for fees, taxes etc.. so, to answer you question about shipping your 10 year old foriegn made car that has 180,000 miles on it... probably not worth it. This website has lots of info on this. (Shipping a car) Call and get the facts, do the math and see if it is worth it to you.

Thanks for your advice. Like how much am I looking at to buy a 4 wheel drive used vehicle? Or what about scooters, are those common on the islands? Is the public transportation ok? If any one can answer any of these questions for me I would greatly appreciate it. -about the car thing I know that my question is really vauge but I am open to just about any vehicle that can handle the island terrian and get me from point A to point B!
Thanks again! -Alaina

Definitely sell and get one here. A 180K vehicle wouldn't last very long here.

4WD can be had for as little as $1,500 (Suzuki Jeep)

Public transportation is dreadful.

Scooters are for rent nowadays, but they still aren't popular. They can be found in the Island Trader, though. Or buy one from the rental places.
