Hi - We are planning a move to your islands.

How do I find out if my Toyota that I bought here in Haiti can be used on St. Thomas and St. John?

I notice that it does not have an airbag and I wonder if there are other things that it needs? It is a great truck - standard, deisel.

Thanks for any help out there...

I don't know for sure, but were I to guess, I'd say "why not?'. I mean, all of the vehicles on this island came from other places, and there are a bunch with no airbags. Some with right-hand drive, too. All it needs is to be able to pass inspection. If it has all working lights, good tires, no broken windows, working wipers and horn, you should be fine. On another note, you may want to consider if it is going to be worth the extra cost of shipping it here, though. You might find that it would be better to sell it where you are and buy one for sale here. There are always many...some at great deals, due to the owner needing to sell it because of leaving island.

ou can always check the phone book at www.viphonebook.com and get the number under the Gov't section for Inspection Lane...or even call the police. They may know.

Hello Jane,

One thing you do need to check on that used to be a concern (may still be, haven't looked into it in a while) with bringing cars from other islands is whether it meets the US emissions standards... catalytic converter standards.
