Travel to the DR or Grand Cayman

I've been trying to find a reasonable way to get from STT to the Dominican Republic or Grand Cayman. Everything I've found thus far makes it look like we could get there for the same or cheaper from Chicago. Is that possible? Any ideas?

I don't know of any way. Unless it's a direct flight it's always expensive & usually difficult to get to other islands from here. I hope somebody else has some answers.

I flew to the DR last summer - have AA flight alert for travel there on my computer. The lowest I have seen is $494.00.

You know, I asked someone from Dominica about how they get back and forth. She told me there is a charter company that arranges flights. Maybe they do the same for the DR, as I don't think many of the folks can afford the AA prices. About the only places in the Caribbean you can fly direct are Anguilla and PR. Everything else is a pain.

Thanks for the responses. Since there are only 2 of us, a charter doesn't seem viable either. I guess we'll just fly from Chicago. We can catch a sale fare from there. It's just so strange to me that it's cheaper from there.

I didn't mean an individual charter. I think this is a (small) plane. but they fill it up with different groups. Ask around.

I don't know if this helps, but you can fly to cancun and then to grand cayman. i also know if you can get to any outside island(not in USA) from cuba it's only about 90.00 dollars.

Check with the owner of Molly Molone's in Red Hook. He has a place in DR and travels back and forth often. If he is not on island now, he sure will be for St. Paddy's Day! His name is Frank.

I think LIAT flies to Santo Domingo. Not sure what route they would take out of STT, but I'm sure it would work if you are not in a hurry.
