this year is the last for the island of STX. i guess once it was rid of qualifier status it just didnt make sense for it to still happen

That's too bad. STX can use the exposure and the $$$ it brought in.

Also too bad since it means the westbound roads won't be fixed...

That is bad news.
Anyone know, how many years the Triathlon took place on STX?

Was funding cut by the government?
Considering the VI Tourism Department has such a large advertising budget you'd think they'd be able to step up since its such a positive attraction and brings in tourist dollars that STX wouldn't see and desperately needs.

http://forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/Slowtwitch_Forums_C1/Triathlon_Forum_F1/2017_is_last_year_for_St_Croix_70.3_P6213533/?search_string=st%20croix#p6213533

Site mentions many reasons for its demise such as the difficulty of the course, lack of large jet transfers from Pourto Rico to carry the bikes, and far more 70.3 venue's in the area like Pourto Rico, Miami, Cozumel, Cartengenta, Campeche, and Costa Rica.

Apparently the St. Croix 70.3 was the only qualifier in the Caribbean years ago.

Almost every city has gotten on the Triathlon bandwagon over the past few years. There's no need to travel to a place like St. Croix anymore when you can attend one in your area.
