Tropical Shipping - Rate Increase

Anyone planning to ship a car from Florida to the USVI in the near future might want to touch base again with Tropical Shipping to reconfirm what Tropical's rates are.

Today, when I had my son drop a GMC Jimmy off at the dock, he was told that the rate is now $970 from FL - STX plus $50 additional if you want Tropical to handle outbound US customs clearance.

In July the price Tropical quoted me in writing was $770.

Not much I could do except give Tropical the additional $200.

I just got a few quotes and I was told that during the winter months the fees/charges would increase 10-15%. I have to say the people I spoke to in NJ about shipping were very rude.
I plan on driving to Miami the first week of November and shipping my car.

In July I shipped from WPB to STX with Tropical at the $770 rate. Tropical had a higher rate, however, for larger (by cubic feet, not weight) vehicles. Perhaps your GMC Jimmy was too large to qualify for the lower rate?

Hi VB,
Where is WPB? I am sending a car over, I live in PA and will drive down to Miami to ship the car. To ship from PA its about $2000.

Just guessing but I would say West Palm Beach Florida. Since most of the shipping is done from Florida.

WPB is indeed West Palm Beach. Does anyone have an address, phone# or email for Tropical Shipping? Is it in WPB?

I gave them all the details. Spoke in person with people on STX. Quote came from Riviera Beach office saying that the cost for my 5,300 lb SUV would be $770.
