I went on the Tutu Park Mall site yesterday. My husband and I never knew that existed behind K-Mart. Are there really all those stores and eateries there? and what about the supermarket, is that still there, I never heard of it. The web site said a Sears was coming but the site does not seem to have been updated since 2002 or 2003. I remember someone saying there was a Sears on St. THomas, but it is closed. We will be moving down to St. Thomas on August 1.

Well, yes, there are stores and eateries there, I can't vouch for the accuracy of the website. The supermarket is Plaza Extra. Someone had the right to sell Sears merchandise for awhile, but it definitely wasn't a Sears store, and it is now closed. Some of us are keeping our fingers crossed that with the new relationship between Sears and K-Mart we will see a real Sears someday. Be forwarned that Tutu Mall is not like a stateside shopping mall.

P.S. I forgot to mention that the eateries are in a food court, not separate restaurants.

East Ender,

Thanks for the info. We will check if out when we move down. I understand it not being like a stateside mall. We have been in the Florida Keys for the last ten years and there is very little shopping here. In fact, the K-Mart on St. Thomas is like Bloomingdales compared to the K-Mart in Key West. Looking forward to our move.

I am a Sears employee and have been wanting to move down to the islands but I haven't found a job. Now that I know there is a Kmart down there I can see about transfering to the Kmart. More than likely that Kmart will become a Sears Grand or a new Sears Essentials store. I hope so!! Anyways, I need to contact that store and haven't found any info on the web at all, so if anyone knows the phone # please email me!! Thanks! James

Sybrik, Is Essentials a line of home products?
Our KMARTs lately have been stocking some lovely plate sets, rugs and towels from a "Home Essentials", much nicer than the Martha Stewart line, in my opinion. Maybe we'll get more products from them?

Onika, The Sears Essentials store is a mix of the best of Sears and the best of Kmart. But will carry the Sears' name. So Craftsman tools and Kenmore appliances will be found at these stores along with top Kmart brands. If it is a Sears Grand it will have groceries and everything, the whole idea is to go after Walmart. So at the grand stores you can buy groceries and a fridge to put them in. They will be groceries at then essentials store but only to an extent. Most of the grand stores are bigger than a super walmart. More than likely, in five years Kmart will no longer exist. Anyway, thanks for the phone number and if you have any more questions feel free to email me!! Thanks, James PS. The new home line at Sears is the Ty Pennington line.

Onika,
Actually the new housewares and home fashions you're seeing are "Essential Home", an upgraded selection being introduced this spring and summer. It is replacing the "Home Essentials" brand, which is very basic, value driven merchandise- read not as nice but very cheap. Both are K-Mart brands.
There are some much improved furniture offerings coming, too, from Essential Home and from Martha, in the next couple of months.
As far as Sears brands, it's already happening in some stores in the US, but there is no specific information about the VI stores.
K-mart starts accepting the Sears charge card on May 26th.
Hmmm...

KMart West on St. Croix has been looking for a new assistant manager. They pay pretty well for that kind of position, too, as well as send someone to the states for training (paid) at management headquarters.
