I've heard that Schooner Bay Market Place is good, and expensive, just east of Christiansted.

You're right. However, lately Schooner Bay hasn't had much of an inventory of ... ANYTHING... in the store. Rumor has it that it's for sale. Don't know this, personally, just heard it through the grapevine.

There are many rumors that Schooner Bay Market is having financial problems. The shelves definitely are not stocked like they once were. I have heard that they hope when the "snowbirds" return they will be able to begin restocking and get out from under some of their financial difficulties. Lets hope so. However, they are most likely to carry upscale items. And you may also check at Food Town on the west side of Christiansted on Northside Road. But surprisingly, Plaza often carries specialty items, you just may need to look in unusual spots for them.

The Plaza on Centerlne towards F'sted has some excellent, more exotic items - Food Town has some European items and better quality goods - Schooner Bay has been going steadily downhill for a couple of years and when we left earlier this year, was certainly nothing to write home about. Cost u More has good fresh produce and their meat can be quit good too, but care packages from relatives and friends are very 'doable' for non perishable food items.

If you can't find certain items I know http://www.igourmet.com ships to the Vi's. They have a great selection of specialty cheeses and other gourmet items from around the world. Nice folks too. Tell them Iris send you.

Prior owner has had to assume operations of the store and has restocked the store with even more great items. If you've stopped patronizing the store you should stop in again. The changes are impressive.

I wouldn not say the changes are anyway impressive its just back up and running. You will most like find most of the shelves stocked as they were before the nose dive this last summer. Had no idea why they would have 2 or 3 cashier on when the shelves were almost bare. Dont get me wrong I'm glad they did, most of the ladies that work there are very nice and friendly. And it is a spot where you can find some upscale items and it comes in handy for inbetween grocery trips.
