Is it unrealistic for me to find an apartment for me, my fiance, and my pets on STX for 9 months without being on the island? Especially in only 3 weeks till the possible move. Just getting worried about missing a chance of a lifetime.

It's not impossible, more like improbable I am sure if you arrive earlier you will find something. Most times you do need to be here.

It would be best to be on island first. That way you can pick between areas. Some area are not desirable to some people, some areas are more accessible to your work, etc.
I would recommend that you contact Alexandra, a poster on this board, with your requirements and when you get here, she can have some places for you to see.

I thank you for the info. It sounds like that is the best way to do this. I was hoping not to. Maybe I luck out. Everyone has been great. Would it be easier to try for a 2 bedroom house? long-term?

If you have pets you will have more options to choose from with a house. Most condos on stx do not allow dogs, a few allow one dog (usually a small one). Definitely wait till you get here to look around. Find a cheap hotel for a couple of weeks and look around. In off season it should be easier to find something and maybe even a little cheaper. Also you really want to try to live close to work.
