Since there has been some talk regarding Cannabis and the territory I figured I would put this out there for people that might be interested.

USVI NORML is a registered nonprofit organization that is working towards the end of Prohibition of Cannabis in the US Virgin Islands. As a organization for 5 years we have been working towards raising awareness and education regarding the benefits of Cannabis and Hemp and how this could apply to the territory.

We have been, and still are active in working with the Senators and the public to educate with regards to all of the different uses that this plant has and how it could be of a benefit to the territory as a whole in creating new jobs, a new revenue stream, a viable exportable product with hemp fibre.

We believe that there is a overwhelming body of evidence that in it's natural form, Cannabis and its non-psychoactive compounds could be a emerging all natural treatment for some of the most debilitating illnesses that are out there. We believe that hemp which used to be a major crop in the United States should be revitalized again as a eco-friendly fiber that can be used in a wide variety of applications including a textile more durable that materials such as cotton and denim. Hemp can also be used as a building material as strong if not stronger than concrete, one which is completely recyclable, and a material who has a NEGATIVE carbon footprint. We believe that a repeal will also result in a decrease in the crime rate in the territory.

As briefly mentioned in another post on the board we recently held a educational and fundraiser event at Hull Bay in St. Thomas over the weekend which is the start of many more to come.

As a organization we welcome the opportunity to educate the public regarding Cannabis and to engage in positive public debate regarding the issues as it effects the USVI.
