"WAPA had promised residents a 30 percent decrease in power bills following the switch to propane, but that promise now seems like a distant dream, as WAPA continues to struggle with debt, and must find ways to pay its debtors."

The promise always was a "distance dream" and anyone who thought otherwise was fooling themselves.

I'm thankful we were able to have solar panels installed a few years back.

Now we're looking to go completely off WAPA's expensive grid with battery storage to avoid the constant battle WAPA wages with net metering customers.

WAPA = liars and thieves.

VICanuck,
Are you looking into Tesla battery? Are there any other options you looked at? Please PM.

Yes, I'm definitely looking at the Tesla Powerwall 2.0 very closely. The early reviews are great. I'm not really an "early adopter" as they say so I want to ensure these things perform. Also, I'm waiting for the Tesla gigafactory to open in Nevada mid-2017 to see how that affects the pricing of the units. From what I can see, I'll need at least two, maybe three units to get the cushion I'll feel comfortable with. But even at $15 - 20K investment, I'm still good to go.
