Hello Everyone,

Is WAPA the only company for gas/electric and water?

There was an article in the Daily News on 5/5/04 titled PSC Grant WAPA it 4th rate hike in 13 months; it stated that most residents currently pay $97.72 for electric and
$42.47 for water per month. Question: Does the $97.72 include both gas and electric and how is the rate increase affecting most residents?
My monthly bill in Maryland for both gas and electric is about $62.00 a month and that's during the winter with 28.4 inches of snow.

Thanks,
MLogan

Hello MLogan,

WAPA is Water and Electricity. And the water aspect is only for some areas of the "city"... areas that are close to town/airport. So the majority of the population does not use WAPA for water. Water is collected; when it rains its gathered in the roof and runs by gravity through pipes into a cistern (holding tank for water). If it doesnt rain or you use lots of water then you have to buy trucks of water to fill your cistern. Some apartments and condos charge per gallon each month, while others charge when the cistern is empty and a truck of water has to be ordered.

Gas is used for gas stoves and you would buy a cylinder of natural gas from a gas company.
