Vehicle Registration - Renewal

I won't be on Water Island until November 21. My vehicle registration expires November 2. I'm trying to figure out how many extra bureacratic hoops I'll have to jump through and how much crap I'll have to endure if I wait until the week after Thanksgiving to renew my vehicle registration after it has expired. Anyone been there; done that?

I have some options:

(Option #1) I can arrange for my property manager to engage Brad to take our vehicle over to STT to meet a service company (e.g., Beep) rep who will handle the registration on time. This will cost $65 each way (Brad's barge) and service company fee (estimate $100) and property manager (estimate $50) = ~$280. (Plus the cost of the registration which, according to my current registration, will be around $100.)

OR

(Option #2) I can wait until I'm on island and do it myself. Still will have the cost of Brad's barge ($130) + vehicle registration ($100) = ~$230. But, will also have the benefit of using the truck while on STT to do some power home project shopping @ Home Depot, Cost-U-Less, etc. and fill up my tank on STT (versus cab fare to/from SubBase & various retail stores on STT and porting gas cans in the dinghy back/forth between WI & STT). The cost savings of this option isn't that compelling but the convenience of getting most/all of our shopping done and loaded into the truck and transported with ease back to WI is very compelling.

Any recommendations or advice? What kind of objections or penalties should I expect from the VI Motor Vehicle License Bureau if I show up for renewal after my vehicle registration has expired. (NOT renewing my vehicle registration is NOT an option.)

Thank you in advance for your input.

Lip, thanks for the recommendation. I'll add the lady's contact info in my "WI Miracles Can Happen" book. Since posting I have considered a "modified Option #2" where I would still hire a service to do the vehicle registration renewal and have them call me when its complete. Then I could take the WI Ferry over to meet up with my truck, do my big shopping (we have a lot of DIY home improvement & maintenance projects planned) and with the truck loaded, hook up with Brad and Krum Bay for the barge ride back over to WI. I suppose using a service might reduce potential for VI MVLB to give me any lip about expired plates....pardon the pun (smile). Thanks!

Are you sure it expires Nov 2? Registrations run until the end of the month- so if your sticker is "11", it is good until the 30th of November.

Well........The vehicle registration says "NEXT REGISTRATION DATE: 11/02/06". So, I assumed it actually expired on the date that it says on the paper. But, I like YOUR story better!!
