Does anyone have any experience shipping a truck from FL to STT. who has the best rates to do this? I will have to drive it from the Norfolk VA area to FL or NJ? You would think i would get a good rate out of Norfolk Virginia?

I recently had a truck shipped from Jacksonville to St. Thomas. I used Meme St. John from International Logistics. She took care of pretty much everything. When it was all said and done it ended up being close to $2,500. You can email here at memestjohn@gmail.com, or call 340-244-0519. She was recommended on this site. Super easy to work with and she made things go really smoothly. Well worth the money. Here is a break down to give you an idea of what the $2,500 is for:
Ocean Freight

$1,375.00
AES Filing
$75.00

Sub Total Shipping
$1,450.00

Estimated cost of clearing and registering a :

Road Tax
0.16
4433lbs
$709.28

Permit to move
$10.00

Service Charge
$75.00

Sub Total Clearance
$794.28

Registration
$120.00

Service Charge
$75.00

Sub Total Registration
$195.00

Total Clearance and Registration
$989.28

Grand Total
$2,439.28

Yep, that is what I was quoted by Meme, I also checked the one in West Palm and they were about the same price. Meme even told me that since I lived in Florida, they could come by and pickup my vehicle and transport it to my facility rather than me having to drive it to them for another $150.00 or so if my memory serves. Meme also told me that I could build a box on the back of my truck and long as the wooden box was the same height and wideth as the truck bed and cab in order to transport personal items and I don't think there was any extra fee for that either.

That is correct. We used International and what Meme says is correct. I bought one of those accordion roll back covers for my husband's truck and we shipped most of his tools and lots of household items. Very well worth the extra charge for it as shipping those items would have been a lot more. We, also shipped items in our SUV and everything was done, lisense, tags, when we picked it up. We are on STX, but, Meme is out of STT. Very reliable and nothing broken, or missing. We shipped out of J'sonville, FL this past November.

WOW, that is going to be a big truck on the island. Most people believe smaller is better when it comes to vehicles on the island. The roads are small and they get even smaller especially in town where people park all over both sides of the road and leave just enough room for small cars to pass through.

Bring what you want to drive, don't worry about what "most people believe".

Big is not a problem here(STX).

Our cost were:

Ford Excursion
Ford Explore Sports Trac

VI cargo out of Medley Fl.

$5,100 for both including government fees.

We did do the BMV stuff ourselves just to get a feel of what it's like. It's easier than the DMV in California and far less expensive.

Cheers!

How long was the trip from Florida to the VI for your two vehicles? I know years ago, it was like 4-6 weeks, has it improved any?

Thanks,
Mike

There are plenty of F-350 trucks in STT, Mine is a F-250, I'm not going to haul tourists in mine. So your right most people think smaller is better. But why should I buy a small vehicle that wont tow something, or wont hold a decent load of stuff in the cargo area? Nope the truck is going to STT!! I was only looking for recommendations to ship it, not if people thought it was suitable for STT. But I guess when you come to a forum that's what its all about and people will give there opinions TOO. Thank you.

I would like to hear more about Meme st john. Where is that shipping company located? are they in Florida and ST Thomas? and I also like the idea of being able to construct a wood crate to ship a few items with the truck, did they charge extra to do that or is it included as long as the box doesn't exceed the dimensions left right and up? again thanks so much for the info, this is a great resource.

hahahahahaha, everyone has an opinion, some are more opinionated than others. But I'll be watching Craigslist in about 6 months for your F250 after you have driven it awhile on these roads and these hairpin turns.:)

The truck we shipped was a F-150, so the 'weight' will reflect that truck in the quote I gave. You can figure your own road tax by multiplying the weight of your truck (on your title) by 16¢.

Meme is on St. Thomas. But she has been doing this for some time and knows all of the ins and outs (which tends to be a HUGE plus in the VI in general) I highly suggest you contact her and she will walk you through everything.

When we shipped our truck, it left Jacksonville on a Friday and got to St. Thomas the following Tuesday.
