I am planning a move from ca to stt and find myself perseverating over a vehicle(which I guess is a ca thing). Do I want to ship or buy there? I am thinking of shipping a '96 rav4 w/ 55,000 miles. Is a manual transmission absolutely out? Are there mechanics there that work on Toyotas? Any info would be appreciated.
thanks

If you ship it from Cali to VI it will cost you around $2,000.00

Hello Deb, quite a few manual transmission vehicles here (jeeps, suvs, trucks, cars, volkswagons to name a few).

Probably from New York would be around $1000. Check with Crowley Maritime. They ship out of Pennsauken, NJ. and from California, if you can get to Houston, Texas, it too will cost you about $1000. There is a Crowley there also. http://www.crowley.com/

Hi Juniper--
The other big shipping company is Tropical. Go to google and put in "tropical shipping." They may be a little cheaper than crowley.

Better bring them both. I got to STT December 15th & had entertained the idea of a motorcycle or scooter BUT after arriving I soon realised that these winding mountain roads are not the place to rely on a 2-wheeler. MOST of these Island roads have 60-degree inclines with hairpin switchbacks.
