Hello,
I am a 23 year old law student, and hope to gain internships on the islands during the summer and then eventually practice law there after i graduate. I think this is realistic seeing that all VI lawyers are educated in the mainland. I hope this question does not come off ignorant, but I am wondering as a white person living in the VI, will I be a target for crimes? is it safe for me? will I be accepted? would my color disadvantage me in getting a professional job?
also if anyone has any advice on how to gain entrance into the legal market in the VI I would greatly appreciate it.

We have many, many lawyers here, both black and white. You will have to take the bar here if you plan to practice here.

I had heard that the USVI has more attorneys per capita than anywhere in the States.....the bar association has 800 members, that is roughly a per-capita of 80 per 10,000 residents.....alas...we are 2nd to Washington DC

1. Safety: I suggest you not be concerned with color. Just take the same care that any prudent person would.
2. Work: I suggest you make contact with several law firms on the island where you propose to do your internship.
3. Lawyer density: My guess is St Thomas is more densely populated with lawyers than St Croix.
