Since I know the USVI people are very conservative for the most part, I will tread lightly...

My wife and I have a friend back in the states that has a small adult novelty/"marital aid" website. She was asking us about the possibility of advertising down here since we had mentioned the absence of such items down here (at least we haven't seen any). Does anyone know about the legality of advertising such things? I respect the fact that a lot of people don't like the idea of adult toys/books/etc and don't want them out on the shelves somewhere that their kids might see them (or somewhere where they might see them) but is it really such a bad thing for an adult with different views to enjoy them in the privacy of their own homes? Surely we aren't the only ones that enjoy breaking up the normal routine with something a little different on occasion. Any insight would be helpful as she does not want to get into any legal issues for her website.

Thanks!

If you were thinking of an on-line business, how would you advertise? I don't think any of the USVI websites that I've used would be open to having such advertisement -- ISLANDER??

As far as a bricks and mortar place, you'd need to check with the licensing people.

Thanks speee1dy and Linda.

The owner of the site is not an islander but we live on STT for about half of the year and back in the states for the rest. There would be no brick and mortar...just the website. Probably start by just putting ads on virgin.craigslist.org and some other free/cheap places to see if there is any response, her main concern was whether or not it was even legal to advertise/ship such items down here. If it is legal and there is any interest after the craigslist ads then she would approach a couple places down here about some tasteful, small ads (the worst they could do is say no).

I think it's more of a question of how would they compete with some of the other big online businesses. Anyone who is interested in such product probably already knows where they can get it online. People who live here are pretty well versed in how to get things that they can't find on island. Although I don't know what kind of stuff you are talking about exactly, I don't think that any of it is illegal in the USVI if it isn't in the USofA.
