Hi everyone:
I just broke the news to our 10 year old son that we are going to St. Thomas the week after Thanksgiving. He does not share my enthusiasm, but we have to take him because I'd be a nervous wreck leaving him for 5 days. This is a condo search/learning trip, plus my mother and I are going to do some shopping and my husband and father will take our son (Nick) golfing one day which he loves. We're staying at Sapphire Beach which has a children's program I'm hoping he'll like. My question is, is there some kind of sports bar with an arcade where kids can play video games and parents can eat and drink something decent. I'm thinking the ESPN Zone type of place if you've ever been there, or something with at least a couple of games to play. Yes, yes, I know I'm a terrible mainlander snowbird who is perpetuating the commercialism of the island, but please don't hold that against me!

Take the boy snorkelling. Once he finds out how much fun that is, you may never get him to go back north.

Hi Ric:

Thanks for the suggestion....but believe me, I've tried. The child LOVES playing baseball, basketball, skiing, golf, etc, but he HATES salt water and sand, and he doesn't like the temperature above about 80 degrees. Go figure...how this child came out of MY body I have no idea. Actually, I do know. He's just like his father!!!

Anyway, I think I will try snorkeling one more time. The last time we tried was a couple of years ago and he didn't like the equipment, breathing through the tube, ect. But maybe he'll like it now that he's a little older.

Thanks,

Theresa

Theresa,

To answer your question, no arcade/resturants like what you described. If he likes more active sports perhaps parasailing, or renting a jetski....

Try the bowling alley on St. Thomas. They have a restaurant with very good food. They have a children's room with video games (about 10) and table hockey. There is another room with pool tables. The boy can bowl, play video games, etc, won't feel deprived and you can sit in air conditioning and enjoy a dinner. The bowling alley is call VI Christian Ministries and is very close to Bolongo Beach Resort. It is nice. I take my 8 year old daughter with me on Thursdays when I bowl and she spends the entire time playing the games.

Also try Coral World. The kid can stay dry but sneak a peek at all the underwater life he is missing by NOT snorkelling.

Forgot about the bowling alley. Definately you guys can do that, if you all bowl perhaps a fun family thing to do together or just let your son play the games and you guys eat, maybe you husband could play pool with your son.
