I am moving in august to STT and staying at villa fairview for first month. I am doing this in order to look for housing, do yall think this is a good idea? also, i have a bartending job in red hook so I am a little confused on how I can get home at night seeing as I wont have a car down on island. Any suggestions? Does the bus route run late or am I stuck taking a cab for a month? help appreciated.

I stayed at Villa Fairview when I first moved down-it's a good idea. However, it is not on the safari route. If you take the safari, you will be dropped off downtown and have to walk up the hill. The walk can be a bit seedy at night, I would only walk the hill during the day. Best if you take a cab. I think a cab will cost you $10-$15. However, some cab drivers don't like to drive up there because of the road; sharp couple of turns and a huge dip.

There is a place in Red Hook called Captain's Quarters. It is being sold, so I don't know if they are still renting out rooms. Couldn't find their number, but you can call The Real Estate Center at 340-775-1717 and talk to Mike or Chris. It's a nice area, and you can walk to all the bars and restaurants in Red Hook.
