Wanting to support local artists/artisans

Hello everyone. I am getting involved in yet another endeavor, and almost purchased a number of glass vases and hand thrown and painted pottery from Mexico. I then thought, what am I doing? It would be better to support folks who live here.

I have heard of a potter, and of a glass blower, but have no information on either. Does anyone know if there is a shop or shops, or if not, how to contact these people?

Many thanks again,

Dan

Hi Dan,
There is a glass blower with a shop in F'sted called Island Fire Glass. The artist is Matthew Fenske. www.islandfireglass.com. 277-5653.

As for potters, Sara Lee Hayes is teaching clay workshops at the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts. She should be able to give you more info about local potters. 772-2622.

There is a pottery shop somewhere on the Northshore. I've seen the sign at the entrance to the Northshore road, but can't recall the name and don't know what they do exactly, but I'm mentioning it in case you want to go exploring...

Good luck!
Jamila

Just after one turns to go to Cane Bay from the N'shore road - there is a sign on the left for the pottery. It is the same one that used to be on Hospital St. on the way to Gallows Bay. I am not sure if they do "pots" - we bought garden 'flagstones' from them.

I think there is a glassblower somewhere in C'sted - or used to be - somewhere down towards Hotheads?

Thank you so much once again! You are just great. I have printed this and will make contact on Monday. I was about to spend hundreds of dollars, and then thought: Why not use it to support people who live and work here?

I truly appreciate it (one more),

Dan
