Hello all,

I am a 21 year old college kid that has grown up with trips to the islands and have always dreamed of living there. I know all the hardships and little inconveniences (or most since Ive been on this site for the past year) because of all the great info. on this website so this isn't some random decision that I may regret someday. Anyways I will be graduating May 2007 from Missouri State University with a degree in Hospitality and Restaurant Administration so I hope to land a job in hotels, restaurants, or possibly from the one country club on the island. I know I still have a while before I move in June but if anyone has any advice on how to get a possible roommate or any suggestions for a decent job in my area of study it would be greatly appreciated. Also another question in regard to finding a job in June, is it hard since it will be during "season"? Anyways I think i will stop the questions for this session but any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you everyone,

Kyle Fitzpatrick

Kyle, "season" isn't June...basically it's Thanksgiving til Easter, or at least for the snowbirds.

Please remember - although you are young and probably go with the flow more than most, living in the islands and visiting are two entirely different scenarios...it is a FABULOUS adventure, though!

Keep networking through this board as you get closer to your arrival date, but maybe take spring break and get to STX and get your resume out, visit with folks, and find out about the needs of various businesses in your chosen field...you can still slip a little snorkeling in, and you just might find the job of a lifetime!

Good luck to you. Bring lots of money and be prepared!

Dear Kyle -

What a small world!

My younger sister is a sophomore at MSU. My husband and I work in Springfield. We are relocating to STT at the end of October. Any help we can provide, ask away. Becky has given you some great advice and if you keep reading this board and the Virgin Islands Daily News and Island Trader, you will be ahead of the game. Also, there are lots of jobs posted on America's Job Bank, which can be found through www.dol.gov and click on various links. It will give you some idea of the work available and sometimes the pay.

Best of luck!

Kyle:

If you do decide to move to STX, contact the Avis as the news there is a bit more relevant to St. Croix, whereas the Daily news is heavy on STT. I am a bit dull at times, and didn't realize that until I had made several medical appointments, chosen restaurants etc. that were on STT.

If you need information on how to contact, just PM me and I'll get it to you,

Dan

Offrdfun73:

Thanks alot for the website I actually found some great jobs when it comes time to move. Now here are a few questions if you dont mind helpin me out. How many premove trips if any have you made? What are you 2 doing for transportation (shipping car or buying on on island)? How are you going about getting jobs since its tough to get one without being on the island? If you have any advice it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Kyle

Hey Kyle - I sent you a PM. Let me know if you don't get it. Sorry it took so long to respond. I kind of lost track of this thread.
