water costs

I will be moving to STT next month. Do most people on the East End rely on the water in their cisterns or do they prefer delivered water? Let's say you want to get delivered water. I heard delivered water runs about $300 for a 5,000 gallon supply. Does this sound right?Approximately on average, how long would this supply last for a small household of 1-2 people?

Thanks,

Michael

been here 11 years and the rain has always kept mine full. You learn not to waste water, long showers, washing you car whatever. Some apts will charge you around 10 cents a gallon or around 50 bucks a month

Michael: Yes, most people prefer to live off of their cistern, mainly because the water is free!! As Wake Up said, you become very water conscious. You learn to turn the faucet off while you are brushing your teeth, wet down and turn off the water in the shower, suds up, then rinse, etc. A lot of water usage depends on things such as: will you have a washing machine in your home? Can you take short showers? You can take a two gallon shower or a 5 gallon shower, but a washing machine uses a huge amount of water. The water delivery charge sounds about right... A lot depends on the rain- if it is dry, you buy!! (This is one of the reasons you'll learn to love rain showers!)

Michael,

As mentioned its not a preference... rain water vs. truck water. It's necessity, if you run out you buy otherwise you don't. And the lenght of time a truck load of water will last depends on how much water you use and the weather

estimate:
showers, laundry, dish washer, 4 people.... about 1-3 trucks a year, largest truck, depends on weather

estimate:
showers, laundry, large yard with gardens, 6 people.... about every 3 months, medium truck, when its not raining much.

In terms of quality - I vote for rain water!
