i've been talking to Kim Lucas, Buyers Agent St. Croix. She may be able to help you.

You will find the best deals in the paper, specifically the Sunday/Monday paper (Avis). Realtors will only show you their rental properties, but there are usually many more options. You absolutely need a rental car. Good Luck.

We found 13 homes on the Internet and the newspaper when we looked last May. Kim Lucas showed us every property we had found and several we hadn't found. None of the houses she showed us were her listings and we fell in love with a house we didn't know about. It wasn't her listing. We bought it and moved-in in November. We couldn't be happier. If you want someone who will listen to what you want and find it for you, call Kim.

The OP is renting, not buying.

A realtor can help you with both.

A realtor will only help you with rental listings if they are their own. They will not help you with any other realtors or anything not from a realtor because they do not get paid. They are business people not saints. You ABSOLUTELY do not need a realtor to find a rental.

It's not any harder then finding one in a new city stateside. If possible you want to try and get a short lease, because the first place you rent will generally not be the area you really want to be in, same with your first job on island. It's all about getting your foot in the door and the rest will come.

Hiya, hate to call you out, but any realtor can help you on any rental that is on the MLS. Now, there are rentals that realtors have that they do not put on the MLS. These you have to go to that realtor directly. I agree that you don't NEED a realtor to get you a rental. It all depends on if you want help, or like a rental being managed by a realtor.

Eric I don't see how you are calling me out, that really makes no sense. It just seems like you want to argue or maybe push realtors for some reason, are you one? There are few rentals on the MLS. For example there are currently 16 rentals on the MLS for stx. There are so many more rentals in the paper then on MLS, not to mention word of mouth or networking. And just to be clear, so nothing can be twisted, I'm not saying don't go to a realtor listings, I'm saying don't relay solely them. Which hopefully no one has to be told that. Even when I was brand new to the island I found a much better deal not using a realtor then anything the realtors had, and certainly much cheaper.

It's like moving anywhere else, we're not a third world, we just don't have apartment complexes like stateside. You'll either rent a house, a condo, or an apt attached or next to a house. Also don't panic over not being able to find something, it's a renters market. And it really is a fun way to try and get to know the island, going to see potential rentals. It's an adventure and a learning experience.

Haha. No I dont want to argue and no I'm not a reltor. In fact, I'm not even using one to sell my house stateside. Some people just need to calm down a bit. It's just a forum. *-)

I also think the best rental deals to be had are through word of mouth and using a little shoe leather.

I agree with Hiya & Linda J on finding a rental place on your own. Word of mouth (coconut grapevine) or ck'ng the Avis rent ads is still the best way.

Try the websites for St Croix Property Mgmt, Coldwell banker VI and Coral Beach Realty for some current rentals.
