What is the BEST way to kill centipedes and roaches?

They seem to appreciate the cats' food as well as their water dish which they foul disgustingly so not really keen on them as they are toxic to cats and dogs.
They can and will produce seizures in animals if they are bitten as skin secretes toxins. Maybe that's why I rarely see any centipedes but hey, if anyone wants cane toads, I'll be happy to relocate them too! They are not indigenous and they are huge! Those metal poles with the handles and two pronged grabber on the end work very well for catching them and removing them from the water dishes.

No no no no no! Keep your road chickens! I had a HORRIFIC experience with housit gig that involved a giant pool full of cane toad tadpoles. That place was like Frogapocolypse.

I also had a different horrific experience at a different housesit with cane toads where one of the dogs got hold of one. The "toad foam" that that dog produced FOR HOURS while I tried to clean him up was AWFUL. I'd rinse his mouth out and then he'd flap around and spray TOAD FOAM EVERYWHERE. Yuck. Those things are nasty. I will take centipedes over cane toads any day. Less to squish.

IT

ETA: There's a decent docu from 2010 called "Cane Toads: The Conquest" about how this non- indigenous species took over Australia. Netflix streaming has it.

What to do if you suspect your pet has been poisoned by a toad:
• Rinse mouth out IMMEDIATELY with water from a hose, kitchen sink sprayer, shower
sprayer, or water bottle: direct water flow out of mouth instead of down throat
• Rubbing teeth and gums with a soft rag with toothpaste helps remove toxin.
• SEEK VETERINARY ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY: call first to ensure vet is available

Symptoms of toad poisoning :
• Profuse salivation or frothing at the mouth
• Pawing at mouth
• Brick red inflamed gums
• Vomiting
• Seizures and heart failure

How to avoid interactions with toads:
• Toads are active at night: keep your pets inside after dark
• Keep dogs on a leash
• Train dogs not to attack toads
• Toads are attracted to pet food: don’t leave bowls of pet food outdoors
• Toads can contaminate drinking water in bowls: replace water and clean bowls daily

According to local a biologist, the best way to euthanize the toads is to smear some oragel on their heads to anaesthetise them, and put them into the freezer. But make sure it's the toad and NOT A NATIVE FROG! And make sure to thoroughly wash hands after handling!

The cane toads are easily recognizable by their gigantic size. Our native frogs in the Virgin Islands are all under 2 inches in length, while the toad is a good 8 inches or so. Cane Toads are Dark brown and they walk rather than hop. They are non-native and invasive and can be "controlled" without a permit.

The Cane Toad (Bufo marinus) was introduced to the Virgin Islands to control agricultural pests. It is most commonly found around ponds and guts but can also be found in other areas. It is active at night. Adults can be as large as 6-9 inches in length and have brown warty skin. They are ground dwellers and do not climb trees or walls.

This toad is poisonous to pets and humans. When harassed, it releases a white toxin from glands in the skin that can cause severe illness and death if ingested.

If you suspect your pet came in contact with a Cane toad - Seek veterinary assistance immediately!

I guess cane toad soup is out of the question!

Iris, have you seen that movie from the 70's about frogs overtaking an island in the south. Old plantation with spanish moss dripping from the trees. Beautiful setting. Interesting movie. I actually saw it again about a year ago. Might have just been called Frogs?
