As mentioned previously, I'll be working at the Ritz-Carlton. I've also been dissuaded from buying until I've been on the rock for awhile. As such can any of you recommend a good place for me to rent, that is safe, and convenient to the Ritz?

I'm well aware there is a classifieds board, which I will haunt once I know what it is that I need to be looking for. 🙂

As always, thank you for your assistance! 😀

I don't have any rentals for you but more advice. So glad you decided to wait before you buy. Good Job! DO NOT rent anything sight unseen. There are definitely scams out there for rentals that don't exist or do exist but not to the scam artist trying to rent it. Also nothing is much like stateside. And you really need to see the location and the neighborhood for yourself. One last and, you really need to met the landlord and check them out. There are so many people that don't know what they are doing here when it comes to being a landlord and you don't want to end up in a nightmare situation. Also save up for first, last and deposit!

Good Luck! 🙂

Hi Ice,
I could be mistaken about this, but I believe the Ritz has a short term housing arrangement, somewhere near the hotel, for employees new to island. Ask the HR department.

Also, there is a place called Two Sandals not too far from the hotel. They have an assortment of rental type units for shorter term. That might be a good place to start out. That may actually be the arrangement I'm thinking of.

Will you have a car fairly soon? If so, lots of possibilities in the immediate and not too distant area. Almost anywhere in the "Red Hook" area will be fine, both convenient and safe, plus the added benefit of having a bustling nightlife (if you enjoy that), restaurants, shopping, ferry to St. John and BVI, lots of other stuff to do.

If you do find something on craigslist, for instance, and it sounds too good to be true, share the link with us, and we can probably tell you if the place exists.

If you want to walk to the Ritz, you would be limited to Cabrita Point or Cowpet, or apartments in houses in those areas. You are taking your life into your hands by riding a bicycle on the road out to the Ritz. 😮 Also, if you have to work after dark, the Vessup area can be daunting. Get something short term and look around. DON'T rent anything unseen!
