Where to stay for a PMV?

Family of 3. Any recommendations on where to stay for a PMV? Of course I can look up a list of hotels but I didn't know if there were parts of the island that are better to stay on vs others and we'd like to be in more of a neighborhood area. We don't want to move sight unseen but also are 100% sure we're ready for a big move. Our plan is to take care of everything we need to where we live now (sell our stuff, sell the house, sell one car), store our essentials, move down in temp housing and if we love it as much as we think we will, we'll arrange to have the rest of our stuff shipped once we find a long-term rental that works for us. Timing would be around the end of April as we don't want to wait until schools have totally let otu so we can see them in action before deciding on one for DD.

Any suggestions for guest houses or other options for a 3-4 week stay would be greatly appreciated.

Which island?

Not a strong preference really for the PMV becuase we'd like to spend some time on all of them but I see us choosing either STT or STJ for the long haul so probably makes sense to stick to one of those. Also have a strong interest in seeing how we feel about water island. I have a potential job opportunity on the table and it would be a short commute from there. I think we would love living on Water Island but I'm not closed minded to the fact that in day-to-day life we might not like the inconvenience of having to boat everywhere.

Water Island is an attractive option for sure but you will have to consider so many factors it may well confuse a PMV - if you have a boat where to keep it - on both islands - same with a car or at the minimum a golf cart on W.Is. - or depending on the ferry, cost wise and schedule - it certainly can be done but does present complications that are in addition to learning the STT ropes during a PMV.

It is quite common to try and find long term housing that is convenient to your workplaces and school - interestingly I spoke with a long time resident here today who are finishing up building a house and said they may never live in it - looking at over an hour driving each day to take the kids to school versus the 12 min. they now spend.
Places to stay ?? Island View guest House -- Sunset Gardens - Two Sandals - Paradise Cove or maybe even a VRBO rental that will really give you a better sense of island life and daily chores. Learning the island over a few weeks can be accomplished and give you a much better insight into an area to look for housing - location, furnished or not, parking, commuting times , utility costs or available amenities, storm readiness, price, view, AC needs, ease of access, proximity of neighbors, noise, sunlight, breeze, gardening, owner occupied vs. off island or Management administered -- amd more I am forgetting -- a wide variety of decisions to be considered.

What time of year are you planning on coming for the PMV? If you come in off season you are going to have a little more leverage with negotiating a discount on an extended stay. On St. John, I would suggest Samuel Cottages. Nothing fancy, but it's close to town and you wouldn't need a car. It's also pretty inexpensive. I used to live in that area and it is mostly comprised of homes with long term rentals and full time residents. Sameul Cottages Website
