Hey all agian! So as you all know my husband and I will be moving to St Thomas on Oct 15 for 6 months! Anyway I was trying to decide where we wanted to stay when we there. I was thinking either Sapphire Village, Sapphire Beach Resort or Point Pleasure Resort. My main concern is I would like to be able to walk to work at the hospital. Is that possible from any of these places? Also we want to stay in a nicer place right on a beach~but would still like so privacy as far as our room goes. Also shipping does anyone know if you can have boxes shipped to you if you are staying at one of the resorts for 6months. We also want to have a full kitchen area~ I have looked at the websites and it looks like all of these offer the full kitchen. Anyway just any advice anyone has on those would be great! Thanks for all your advice thus far~soon enough we will be there and we cant wait:@)

Saphire is right on the beach, has no restaraunt. Point Pleasant is on the water with awesome views and it has a couple of restaurants. Neither are near the hospital.

Sapphire Village is above the beach with a restaurant & pool. I think most are studios. I can't think of anywhere off the top of my head where you could live & walk to the hospital. You'd have to ask the resort if they can accept boxes or rent a mail box at a mail place & they definitely will.

Mama: You can't have it all. If you want to walk to the hospital, you would need to look in the Sugar Estate or Estate Thomas areas. The hospital is not near a beach, although there is a lovely view of the cruise ships from the southwest facing windows! 😉

If you are looking at long term rentals at any of those complexes, you will need to deal with the owner, not the resort. The resort is usually a hotel management company and deals with the hotel rentals only.

Bahama:

Yes, you can send your boxes to Point Pleasant.

As Jay indicated the views are incredible. You will need to rent at least a "Superior Suite" (Condo) to get a full kitchen, separate bedroom and dining/living room....all have balconies. For long term renters like yourself the extra room in a condo will be much appreciated after a couple of weeks.....Sapphire's units are about 1/2 the size of Point Pleasant's.

Point Pleasant has 3 swimming pools, 2 restaurants, tennis courts, exercise room, nature trail, laundry facility (a big plus for long term renters), it's own small beach, etc. Plus it's in easy walking distance to Pineapple Beach (next door), the Wyndham Beach (next door) and Coki Beach just up the road.

I know that's the bugger~Why cant you ever just have it all:P Ha ha~Really it cant get much better then simply living in paradise! Anyway thanks everyone for the advice. What about the bus system~it looks like Point Pleasant would be the best place to stay, but I was wondering how easy it would be to use the bus to get to the hospital. I heard it can be kinda undependable. Just wondering before I book my place!! Thanks for the input~its a huge help!!

I've never taken the safari bus into town, but you can catch it right at the entrance to Point Pleasant.

However, I strongly recommend getting a car. Especially if you're spending 6 months there....even if you're spending a week. Taxis are very expensive and the safaris don't run at all hours.....plus they only go in a "circular route" direction.

You have to take the safari bus the circular route to Redhook first, then get off at Tutu mall and get on another bus that will take you downtown.

You don't always have to change safaris at Tutu, especially during the usual go to work hours. A lot of them just go through the mall area and continue on to town.

Thanks for the input~ I seem to be getting a strong "Get your own car" vibe all over this site. So I think thats what we will do. Does anyone know of good (hopefully affordable) places to rent a car for a 6 month pd of time~I dont want to have to sell it agian as soon as we are ready to move so I would rather not buy. Any input would be great. Thanks:D

Your best option is (probably) to buy a car....then sell it before you leave. We have met several "travel nurses" at Point Pleasant who do that and it seems to work out well for them. They wind up selling it to another "travel nurse"....since their agency knows who and when new arrivals will be on-island.

We rent from Hertz for 3 months (they call it a monthly lease). I've tried to "lease" a car from the other "off airport" firms, but have never been successful. They tell me "why should we lease car to you for $600./month when we get $500./week during high season".

We thought about buying, but have no place to store the car when we're off island.

Hope this helps.

Perhaps someone else on this board can help with a short term lease........
