Just curious...I have been reading alot about police corruption on STT. Are there any white police officers there or do they keep that a 'Local " thing?

There certainly have been white police officers both male and female in STT over the years - whether they were local or not I am not sure.

There are at least a couple of white and/or light-skinned Hispanic officers on the force presently on STT/STJ. I haven't met them, so I can't speak to their "local" status.

As Sis Irijah says, corruption -- even here -- has nothing to do with where someone was born or what color they are.

Police have an amazing amount of power to "look the other way" when a suspect happens to be a family member or friend. Even someone who is generally not corrupt may find themselves doing unethical things when put into this position. In any small community this can be a problem, and an island is probably the ultimate in small community.

While this has nothing to do with an officer being white/black/yellow/red, I think having a force made up totally of those "born here" can lead to these sort of problems.

Uh jay, Rodney would probably be insulted if you called him white. He is a native Frenchy.

Some of you folks sure have a strange way of thinking. I asked if there were any white cops on St Thomas and things such as this come up...
"there are corrupt policepersons of every ethnicity in every town in the world that have policing systems."
What has my question got to do with whether or not any one ethnicity is more corrupt than any other? I read an article about the police corruption down there and I realized I had never seen a white cop down there so I thought I would ask. What has one got to do with the other.
It is like my question about any single women to date there. I get "But...I just wanted to say I get a chuckle out of this thread every time I see the title: dating "single" women....as apposed to????" It is a perfectly logical question. No, I don't want to date married ones so I asked about single women. I don't get it. I'm happy 'bout Mountain Top. And no I don't mean I am happy about it burning down. I am happy it has been rebuilt!!!!!! GEEZ

Poor maddog, he asked a racially charged question and finds people responses confusing. That wouldn't have happened anywhere else of coarse. And the thread about dating, you just need a sense of humor.

maddog, if you wanted a simple answer, you should have asked your question without any preface. Considering your initial post, you came out relatively unscathed.

maddog,
Once you post a thread, it becomes a public "conversation". Not every post that comes after is directed at you, or even your original post/question. The threads tend to flow, often getting way off topic until someone brings it back, or taking a totally different twist from what the original poster had in mind, winding up 180 degrees from the first post. Just read along, and enjoy! If you aren't getting enough real answers to your question, then jump back in and remind us all what you're looking for. On this particular topic, you got lots of answers already about white policemen. I'm sure there will be more. But you DID start out your post with reading about corruption, followed by the question about white policemen. I actually thought at the time that seemed a bit inflamatory, but gave it the benefit of the doubt that it was truly an innocent question.

I must have missed a Mountain Top post. All I saw was Bassman telling you it has been rebuilt. Certainly nothing you could have taken personally.

Oh...and I can't imagine anything in the world I care less about than who you date. I was just making a joke. I thought it was funny. Sorry you didn't.
