3 years 3 moves for a newbie isn't unusual at all. My first move was for two months, my second was for a year and my third (I got lucky) was for 10+ years. I went through another moving phase after that with two places in a little over a year, then went for 12 years in one place, then another for one year and now in my current place for four years.

When you buy you're pretty much stuck. When you rent you have options. Situations change. Moving can be a real pain but flexibility for me is priceless.

Good luck in the new place, Spartygrad! Hope it works out for you and that you'll be able to put down some real island roots in this one! 😀

If we leave this place, it will be off island and for good. We aren't planning on leaving anytime soon

3 years...? 3 moves?
Good luck in your new digs.

First one was my choice. Wife hated it
Second one we both like but we need bigger now since our boy is older
We are neighbors now. I'm in upper Dorothea.

You're practically a neighbor now.

I moved around the 1st 5 years I lived here - finding better places each time, my last move in 1980 was forced by the sale of our rental and we found the house I live in here now through mutual friends who were friends of our young daughter and having her friends next door was great for her growing up - when it too was put up for sale we scrimped and saved so we could buy the house - The trees have grown up and blocked some of the view and the little Norfolk Pine we had as a potted Xmas tree in 1977 is now over 40 feet tall planted out back and we weathered the hurricanes with little damage.

I have lived on this road now longer than any of the other neighbors, harvest avocados from trees we planted, replaced the decks a few times, modernized the kitchen a few years ago and the bathroom over time, had some built in bookcases made for a library in the guest room and had every range of experience with tenants in the apt. downstairs and even rented the upstairs where I live a few times when I was sailing for many long months - I love my home and when I look back the occasional hard times were so worth it and many of the memories are priceless.

I will be here til they cart me to the nursing home and hope everyone will eventually find a safe haven in paradise that gives them the same happiness.

Moved here 5 years ago and lived in the same house the whole time, even though the landlord never fixed anything right, we had to do it. Been looking for 2 years and moved to a nice little house for the final time and buying it. I'm with Exit zero, my next move will be the insane asylum.

HEY!! I said a nursing Home -- Maybe you can find an old movie called "King of Hearts

http://www.tcm.com/this-month/article/355249%7C0/King-of-Hearts.html

and get a better idea of my viewpoint - living in St Thomas is comparable - the inmates already run the asylum here.

Listen to Scott Kirby's song "Free Range Institution" it's about Key West but you can almost insert many an island in the lyrics. Before anyone get all upset it's all in fun.......;)
