Hi,

We're vacationing in the USVI in May. Does anyone know, will Sirius satellite radio work there? Sure would like to have my nice variety of satellite radio stations playing on my boombox on the beach. Thanks!

Carl

No, and yes.......
If the place you stay has Dishnetwork you'll get the music stations but not the Sirius talk shows etc..
For true Sirius radio I was told with the right Sirius antenna,.. reflecting off a small dish,....pointed to the specific satellite,...it should work for home or office use. I have not verified that here.
It will not work on a boom box.
Bring an Ipod. Or you could listen to local radio and get a feel for Island Radio?

The boombox is for specific use with a Sirius player.
The boombox has a Sirius antenna mounted to it,that I can rotate, move up/down etc.. Is there a chance it might work, given that, if I try to position it directly at the satellite?

We have siriius on some of our charter boats at work. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
Hope that clears up. 🙂

Jay,
What antenna are you using? I've heard it's possible to pick up but doubt a boombox will get signal.
Maybe I'm wrong??

I bet the dish out by Cramers Park can pick up Sirius...though who would want to listen to a pulsating x-rays from 8 and half years ago?

It's just the antenna mounted to the boombox. Thanks for the input everyone! Sounds like my best bet is to load up the Ipod and take that instead.

Listen to island radio, it's actually better than any radio in the states IMO. They aren't stuck on the same 10 song playlist that some corporate guy in a suit told them they had to play so it's still good to listen to.

Does anyone know if it works in cars? I am interested in getting a Ford Edge with Sirius but I am not sure it is worth the extra money.

I have Sirius radio at my house and it uses the standard small outdoor antenna. It works well but we only get 3 bars of signal.
We also get Sirus radio music stations on Dishnetwork included in the 200 pac or higher. Someone posted at one time it was working in their car but I have not witnessed it. I suspect it will work but not sure how well the signal will stay locked.

We had it for awhile. It works about as well as you would expect it to in a hilly or mountainous area. It cuts out in the valleys.
