http://www.saj.usace.army.mil/Divisions/Regulatory/pnwebshare/Antilles_Public_Notices/20110216-SAJ-2007-06364.pdf

Public notice with plans for development at the link. Will they announce a construction timeline once they receive all permits?

G' Day,
Thanks Bombi,

Regarding the posted link - DOD - Permit Application:

Under "Evaluation" whereby Indian Tribes are indicated - while I realize the statement means generally speaking - could this be in reference to The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation that owns "Foxwoods Resort Casino" in Ledyard/ Stonington Connecticut (also now referred to as Mashantucket, Ct.)? If anyone knows...
Thanks, Swan

At the projects inception, yes they were the initiative and principle finance resource.

My opinion --Until there are more direct flights from U.S. to STX by the airlines and airfares are made a lot more attractive, these kind of "projects/visions" aren not going to succeed.

Which came first the Chicken or the Egg? If there were more upscale rooms available, maybe there would be more flights to STX. Airfares will only go up:-(. Rumor has it that Air Lines are going to start charging passengers by the Pound:-o

My point Lizard, is that the current STX hotels haven't been filled in years. STX is much more difficult to get to from the mainland compared to STT or STJ or other high destination Carribbean islands. The "build it and they will come" philosophy is for investors who don't mind losing a lot of money.

I keep hearing people say that it's "difficult" to get to St. Croix and that's so totally untrue. How difficult is it to connect from Miami, San Juan, or Atlanta?

It's one thing to say that there's less flight options to St. Croix, but don't say that it's difficult.

You are a glutton for punishment then or don't mind changing planes several times. When you have to take 3 different flights to get here it can be very difficult if the planes are not on time and most of the time they are not. For example to get here from Cleveland, Ohio, it used to be Cleve to Miami then Miami to STX .That was easy. For several years now, AA from Cleveland, Ohio for example - have to fly from CLE to NYC, or CHI, or Dallas-Ft Worth for you to connect onto Puerto Rico; then change planes for the 3rd time in Puerto Rico to get American Eagle to STX.

Right now if you wanted to fly Delta here --you would have to get to Delta's main hub- Atlanta, chg planes for Delta to Puerto Rico or STT & change planes for trip over to STX.Same applies to US Airways - has 3 different flights (planes) to get from mainland to here.

STX only has 1 flight a day that comes to STX from the mainland every day of the year and that is AA out of Miami. Delta (from Atlanta) & US Airways (from Charlotte) only fly direct for a 4-5 months during the "winter months". You have a lot more options & several additional airlines to chose for 'direct flights" from the mainland to STT/STJ, Puerto Rico, Domican Republic, Aruba, Jamaica and several places in Mexico.

W&P is a great project and should be received better by the VI/STX. For too long the population is negative about any RE project on this island. Always something bad is the focus of developments.

Elliott and Rames have spent YEARS out of their lives in HOPE that it will get built! A major undertaking and they SHOULD receive monetary rewards! These developers have a passion that far exceeds any monetary rewards.......they want something better for STX! STX definitely needs something other than the "blue collar Caribbean island" image and W&P will help. These are smart people and they care about STX.....so extend a welcome and a pat on the back instead of a knife!

Their backing is deep and not faint of heart, so help them STX. STX needs more resources for jobs other than Hovenza or Diageo.

W&P will not be a polluter but a promoter of STX!

Keep pushing forward W&P! I will support you!

Virgin Islanders and specifically Crucians have a serious problem with giving public money to a hotel development when the governor has announced that the govt is broke, they're borrowing to meet payroll, and they plan to DISMISS over 500 govt workers.

We welcome a new hotel development on St. Croix!

Come on down, BUT BRING YOUR OWN MONEY!!!!

G'day,

Be confident in knowing that the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation (Foxwoods Casino & Resort) will solve, resolve, any and all transportation issues that arise or may arise between all of the the islands, the mainland, and St Croix.

Let them "Build it," and the tribal nation will see "that they come!"

Ok if you say so but I'll believe it when it actually happens. I really hope it does happen because I am just about fed up with AA.

Starting June 9, American Airlines will have two daily non-stops between STX and MIA.

For example:

On June 9:
AA Flight 2097 from MIA 12:15 PM to STX 03:00 PM
AA Flight 881 from MIA 6:15 PM to STX 9:00 PM

On June 10:
AA Flight 1456 from STX 7:50 AM to MIA 10:45 AM
AA Flight 1290 from STX 4:20 PM to MIA 7:20 PM

Talked with the owner of the Palms last night. They are full to overflowing with guests. And high season is past.

So the Palms is full & Buccaneer is almost full --

I find these statements to be ?? -- Were in the heck are all these people then? They surely aren't visiting the restuarants on the North Shore and going to the Buccaneer a couple times a week, they aren't on the golf couse either. So I guess these guests aren't driving to the North Shore nor visitng the golf course @ Buccaneer. Gentle Winds Condo's is pretty empty - hardly any tourists.

I think both resorts do a brisk business in weddings which brings in many guests and fills the rooms. Maybe the North shore could market more aggressively.

Perhaps people who stay @ Buccaneer or in C'Std tend to go to restaurants closer to town rather than drive out to the North Shore.

Also, we have lots of business and government people at the Buccaneer. These folks "act" and spend differently that typical tourists.

Edited to explain that a block of rooms are closed as part of the summer rehap program. So while we are at 75- 85% occupancy, that is of available rooms and not our acutal capacity... Is that anywhere near clear??

I know the airlines better than most, working at the airport. AA is indeed going to switch to 2 flights a day to miami, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, plus the two to SJU. The reason for this was that AA wants to pull out as much as possible out of SJU. They don't even want STX patrons to get connecting flights to other AA airlines or others using SJU, they want us in MIA.

Delta is moving up to 4 days a week (Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun I beleive) sometime in June. This is the norm for Delta. They seem to bring in more flights mid summer, maybe even getting up to 6 days a week, but then have cut to 1 flight in October. Then 2 flights in the winter, followed by this pattern. We will have to wait and see what they do now that AA is leaving SJU.

Currently, the best option for getting off the rock is Seaborne to SJU, then taking whatever you want from there. Seaborne is under 200 for a roundtrip. The AA Miami flight is still stupidly expensive.
