I've seen other's post about classes on STT and I know about the classes at the Rehab Center but I'm looking for recommendations for a yoga class , pilates class, water aerobics, or instructors wanting to start a class on STX. I'd really like to know if anyone does one on the beach anywhere?

I have a suggestion for yoga. It's not on the beach, but at the D. C. Canegata Fitness Center (next to the baseball field, across from Schooner Bay in STX). They offer a class at 8-9 am on Mon, Wed. and Friday. The teacher is excellent--she makes sure you are not hurting yourself and doing the poses correctly, plus she urges everyone to go at their own pace, so it's perfect for beginners and more experienced folks. While the demographics are primarily female, there are some guys that go and the ages of participants range from people in their early 30s up to 70s, I'd guess.

The cost to join the center is $75 per year and that entitles you to unlimited classes (they have some strength training and aerobics classes, as well as periodic dance classes). There is also a smallish gym that has some weight machines, bikes, treadmills and elliptical machines (maybe 2 per type). The place is a little quirky--it's not open on weekends, sometimes classes are delayed if the person w/the key doesn't show up and it's closed on all island holidays. On the other hand, it's incredibly cheap and I've been very happy with the yoga classes.

Hope that helps. Kim

I took yoga in the evenings when I was there in February, but not on the beach. I took classes at the Kalima Center in Christiansted. Destry taught a vinyasa class on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00.

I also took a class from Cindy Male. She teaches Wednesday night at 5:30 and Saturday at 8:30. She has her own studio on 75 west of Christiansted just past the entrance to Country Day School. It was a Kundalini class and not as advanced as Destry. Her number is 340-277-8651.

I'm moving down in August, and I'll be looking for a place to teach. It won't be my full-time job so I'll just be teaching one class per week, but I'll post on here when I know where I'll be.
