always too much talk about the people. my friend, please, you need to see the truth. it's not about the people. the people come and go. they wash up on the beach like the shell and fish, and sea grass. they only been here a short time in history. the island been here forever.

the island is beautiful, the sea is beautiful, the beach, the sky, the sun, all beautiful. the people come and go, some beautiful, some ugly. they eat, they drink, they fuck, they lie, they love, they laugh, they cry, they fight, they kill, they steal, they die, they have baby.

it always be that way. sometimes more sometimes less. the people they all crazy. but the island tell the truth always. the sea is beautiful always even when angry, the sun, the sky, the breeze, the island birds and green life is real and so special.

everybody always talking about the people. the people do this and do that. the people is always crazy everyplace you go. people are crazy here because they don't see the truth that the island try to tell them. you need to see past the people. the people just like trash on the beach. look above, see the island and listen to what it tell you. feel the sun, feel the breeze. the island is very old and very amazing like a great doctor, a great artist, like a god.

most people live here are very stupid. they see nothing but the people. they no longer see the island. i say when you know longer see the island and can understand what it tells you it is time to go. too many people living here, old island families also, no longer see the island. time for them to go.

i love the people who see the island for the very first time. the people that see the island for the very first time understand. i watch them they are like children they can see the beauty. they lose the sense of time. they really feel the sun and the breeze and they no what it mean to be alive. But it sad when they become blind like the others and soon it is time for them to go.

you can say bad thing about the people, but never about the island because the island is like god, beyond the judgement, beyond the understanding of men and women.

She's been here looong before I ever came along....and she's going to be here long after I'm gone. How can one argue that?

I saw the island for the first time back in 1970 and was enchanted. I was 16 and absolutely fell in love with the sun, blue sky, fluffy white clouds-- some that surprised you with a quick shower--, green and blue water, the waves, the sand, all the wonderful flowers and plants, the rain forest... just the atmosphere was intoxicating to me. Some of the kids I went to school with were oblivious to the island it seemed. They certainly didn't belong and couldn't wait to leave for college. I'm sure many never went back.

My parents lived there for five years and I was able to travel back and forth. I'll never forget how much I longed to be on the island while I was away in college! I really had island fever bad! Then my parents moved back to the states, I got married, had children and couldn't get back to the island for 29 years. I can honestly say that for those 29 years I missed St. Croix like it was the only home I'd ever known! At times I just felt sick about how many years were going by and wondering if I would EVER see it all again. Then my wonderful and understanding husband surprised me with a 3 week vacation to St Croix in 2004. I'm sure he was hoping it would FINALLY get the island out of my blood. Instead it got in HIS system! We were back down there in nine months for another three weeks and then went again within the year! And are planing another trip for this coming May. And it's not all the restaurants or shopping or partying that we're looking for. It's just the experience of the atmosphere of the island that we love. It's like another dimension that some people aren't aware of. Poor them!

Noname-- you described it all so well.

Great way to put it - I couldn't agree more. EVERYPLACE has problems, but the Islands are just special in so many ways.

It sucks to think that in 10,000 years it will be underwater due to global warming......
