"Our mail is already slow and I expect that it might be slower," V.I. Delegate to Congress Donna Christensen said.

No V.I. post offices yet slated for closure, but mail delivery expected to be slower

Moral of the story (coming from an insider), "If you have a company full of incompetent management who can't run it effectively and efficiently...... LOWER YOUR STANDARDS !!!"

Our new motto: Set your goals low .... That way they're easier to achieve!!!

Cheap shot Terry. The new health plan is just a start ( a rocky start due to the noise and confusion) to where we should be. Some things should be handled by the government. Medical coverage is one of them. Private drug and insurance companies have shown that all they know how to do is make a huge profit at our expense. The government has done a pretty good job with Medicare. I'm happy with mine. I think every American should be a part of a medicare type plan.

Sorry, we shouldn't use this forum to discuss this issue, but i couldn't ignore your comment.

A lot of states have programs you can sign up for in you're under a certain income level. PAs is pretty good. Does VI have anything like that?

Mail is getting pretty outdated anyway. I know you still need it though.

How would you suggest shipping physical items from A to B without the postal system? Maybe years into the future one will be able to scan an item as big as a house and through time warp technology have it appear intact in a designated spot thousands of miles away but until that happens I'd still rather like the off-island items I purchased to get here at least within a couple of weeks!

Let's think of how the PO is mandated (by Congress) to operate. A person in NJ can send a letter across town for $0.44. That same person can send a letter to the USVI for $0.44. Which process costs the PO more ??? RIght now services to the USVI are subsidized by the rest of the USA.

The PO's completion (Fed-X, UPS, DHL, etc.) charges based on distance and associated costs. I saw one study that said to keep the current operational model and to stay in the black, the PO would need to raise a stamp to $0.68. Still cheap for service to the USVI, but the rest of the USA won't have it. So they eliminate jobs and slow things down in the VI to compensate.

Also, the PO can't make major logistics changes (... like close an underutilized / inefficient office or change delivery days, etc.) without congressional approval. AND we all know what that means when politicians need to make hard business decisions.

The PO would be much better off as a 100% private entity that could manage itself.

Weird, and here lately my packages have been delivered faster! A month ago, they would be in "Out for Delivery" status for 2 or more *days*! Lately, though, they've been delivered same day. I was shocked. Guess things will go back to status-quo here after the holidays.
