I took the ferry to St John today and was greeted by a sign telling me I was eligible for a free Zika test but the sign provided no contact information. Where on St John or St. Thomas are these free tests available?

Many Thanks

On St. John, you can go to the Myra Keating Clinic on Centerline Road or to Heath Care Connection on the third level of the Marketplace. I know the numbers show that it has peaked, but I have a bunch of friends who have become ill in the last couple of weeks. Most of them don't bother getting tested, so can't tell you if it's Zika or Dengue.

I guess since there's no treatment and barring pregnancy, there's not a lot of reason. Not at all sure about what is required. But certainly getting eaten alive besides being deeted up. Anyone have any suggestions, old wives tales, I'll even take an island myth at this point. #afraidofbalconys, no matter how much I spray.

I wouldn't waste my time or money getting tested for Zika unless you really have to know just to satisfy your own curiosity. Zika is a one and done thing. Once you've had it once, you won't get it again.

Thank goodness.
Hopefully, there won't be developmental issues, down the road.

edeluv - try mosquito coils, citronella candles, plants, keep doors closed, spray bedroom/closets before going to bed, long sleeved clothing, etc.

Good luck.
See if you can find AVON Skin So Soft.
They used to sell it on island but you may have to order it.
It's worked for me when I lived on a boat and smells a whole lot better than Deet.

The other concerning thing about Zika is the (admittedly remote) possibility of developing the Guillian-Barre syndrome. There have been some reported cases of some people developing this syndrome and I read a few weeks ago about someone (in Puerto Rico? cannot remember where) who died from it. This syndrome causes paralysis which can last for several weeks to several months, a very scary prospect indeed!

I think Avon or someone who had stock in the company came up with the Skin so Soft for repellant, but living in Central Florida, I found that it didn't work. The only thing we found that worked is deet.

Department of Health will now also send a company out to do mosquito treatment if there is a specific area/home with a problem. Give them a call.
