Its important to remember that Chucky doesn't just win elections, she kills them.

The people have spoken, and they feel that she is the person who best represents them, their beliefs, their values, and their attitudes.

I personally loathe Chucky, but she's a symptom of the problem, not the cause of it.

EXACTLY!!!! I have talked to an handful of locals and they all love her. I am BAFFLED. She is disgusting and guess what, I am voting this year. Ugh. Go Away nasty woman.

Alana wanted me to post this for you all:
A recent story in the local paper about cock-fighting showed a photo of a healthy chicken. I would like to share this with you so people can see what cock fighting really looks like. I do hope that lawmakers understand that this is what goes on in the pit - or worse.
>>
>> This rooster was fought, tossed near a dumpster on St. John and was found, unable to eat or stand. He had developed painful ulcers in his mouth - a secondary condition likely related to his injuries and terribly weakened condition. The bird, whose face skin in unusually red (may be related to meds often fed to fighting cocks to bird to "build up" fighting strength) is marked by terrible wound scabs (dark, black marks). At the time this picture was taken, the bird was already beginning to improve. He was able to stand, and some of the scabs have begun to resolve. His comb had also been cut off at some point - a cruel practice cock-fighitng birds are often subjected to.

seriously folks...the average Crucian swallows about 15 chickens per year with no thought as to the feed farms where they are raised, crammed so tightly they can't move, and beaks cut off...

It's undeniable that the chickens in the chicken farms suffer as much (and maybe even more) than the roosters in a cockfight. There is a difference, though. In a cockfight, the animals are made to suffer with a single purpose in mind: the sadistic enjoyment of the spectators.

The Native Americans were considered violent, but they apologized to the animals that they killed during the hunt. Some modern Americans apparently feel that the animals should apologize to them, and they are employing torture as the means of extracting that apology.

This whole thing to me is not really about the roosters, but about the people. Chucky is simply a wh*re who knows how to sell herself to the lowest common denominator. It's the people who elect Chucky that should be on trial of the public opinion.

The "sadistic enjoyment of the spectators" is NOT the "single purpose". Betting on the fights is the real attraction. People love to gamble. You should see how many cars are lined up along Calquhoun Road when there is a cockfight.

Football games, boxing, open martial arts tournaments, hockey...these are all violent sports that are enjoyed by people even though there is strong chance of injury or death to the athletes...or spectators (fans have been injured or killed by errant hockey pucks, baseball, bats, etc..)
Nobody is going to campaign to ban these sports.

The people of the United States elected George W. Bush to the presidency twice. He proceeded to destroy the US economy while engaging in multiple war crimes and wars of choice. Some members of his administration cannot travel to certain countries, or they will be arrested and tried as war criminals. If he could run again, he would win by a landslide. The next President of the US will be evil incarnate in the form of Hillary Clinton, who will plunge the world into a devastating world war. Chucky Hansen's antics pale in comparison.

Kindly name one elected official in the US in whom you have complete confidence, and whose character you can vouch for with no reservation.

The voters in the US are just as pole-axed as the voters here. There is no monopoly on stupidity.

George W. Bush was not elected by the people the first time.

If I remember correctly (off the top of my head without doublechecking this) he did not win the popular vote. Then there was the issue of the hanging chads and I think the Supreme Court finally ruled and therefore they are responsible for Bush being elected. Also Jeb Bush was involved with this.

I can't name one. But I surely would not vote for someone charged with conspiracy and bribery, convicted of fraud, and supportive of brutality. It may very well be that majority of politicians are not trustworthy, but at least there are some who are not openly and defiantly crooked.

Some of the policies of the US government have created or fostered an 'us versus them" mentality...for example, the trade agreements (NAFTA, etc) that classified the USVI as 'Latin America', thereby removing us from the US Customs Zone...that's why you can't order certain products and have them shipped directly here. Politicians who know how to play on this mentality here remain popular and are almost guaranteed election, no matter what else they may lack.
It's going to take major voter re-education to change things.

How many people who oppose cock fighting as barbaric do not consider abortion murder?

The roosters are having someone decide for them. And for their personal enjoyment. Show me an abortion clinic where you can place bets on the outcome.

...so you think it is OK to send robots into foreign countries to kill babies who have never even heard of America, much less plotting to attack it?

The roosters are having someone decide for them. - So are the unborn babies

Who would be crazy enough to place bets on the outcome at an abortion clinic. There is no game of chance at an abortion clinic. Woman walks in pregnant, she walks out not pregnant. Where is the gamble?

Absolutely correct.

Sometimes our outrage is grossly misplaced.

Indeed, neither the roosters nor the aborted babies have a choice. That picture of a bloody rooster that AandA2VI posted is nothing compared to the horror that one might witness during the D&X surgery, where the brain of an unborn is suctioned out of the skull until the skull implodes. The abortion debate deserves its own thread. The Virgin Islands voters deserve a credit for not lining up in the D&X operating rooms for the purpose of enjoying the spectacle. But if it were a "cultural and traditional" thing in VI, would you stand by "your people", you "honorable" Alicia Hansen?

Maybe we could get Terminator roosters from the future to go after Chucky.

It is not traditional nor cultural to the VI.

there's a cop living in Tide Village that has a whole rooster breeding operation right in his front yard. Someone should liberate these poor caged creatures. I'm pretty sure his neighbors would appreciate the effort.

For centuries slavery was also a traditional and culturally and economically significant activity in the VI. That does not justify it then or now. Yet many of the same arguments used today in favor of cockfighting were also used by those who argued against the abolition of slavery. The civilized world rightly rejected those arguments, so if the cock-fighting community wishes to make a lasting case for the activity, they should find a better approach. I don't think there is one.

Yeah, but he's got a gun and one thing about principles, there like bringing a knife to a gun fight, they don't stop bullets.
