i had not heard about the shoot out on the beach

It was in ST Thomas a couple of years ago, the police were at the beach at the time, arrested the the players. Never heard the details on what happened after the arrests.

One incident happened at Coki Beach. A couple years ago - 2 maybe? There was a funeral there for a family member who was to be buried in their family plot by the beach and that had been shot by an opposing gang member as I recall. There was a shoot-out between the 2 opposing gangs and a young girl from PR who was on a cruise ship with her family was sitting on a safari bus. She was caught in the crossfire and killed. A terrible thing.

They have since renovated Coki Beach since that killing, improved the area but those unsavory elements remain in place and everyone knows drugs are dealt there. There are better beaches to go to, IMHO.

Nope. Referring to a recent incident over on STX. Didn't make the papers. Guns a blazin'. No fatalities. Heard about it from friends.

The cokki incident started at gang funeral. Retalation for a day time murder at our Kmart. I have no idea why police aren't stationed at gang funerals. The did catch and convict the little girls killer. But it seems like it take's national attention to light a fire under an investigation.

And what about the gun fight at the christmas fair? Wasn't an noccent bystander shot?

I'm not getting a story from your reference of the daily news, but I do remember a bystander shot at the Christmas Fair on STX. I have not heard of any gang gun battle on a beach in STX recently.
