Home Depot hired security from Cost U Less

So last night I thought I'd pick up some wire nuts at Home Depot ( turns out they are not very tasty nor nutritious - in fact I suspect they are not nuts at all, but that's a different topic) . After going though the self-checkout I was intercepted by the security guard who wanted to autograph my receipt. He didn't check the contents of my purchase and just sent me on my way. Couldn't help but chuckle thinking he was hired from Cost U Less.

Now I'm questioning the whole process. I mean if you're not going to check the contents against the receipt then why bother? Maybe it's to prevent people from faking home depot receipts and returning random items from around the house for credit - "Sorry sir but that's not a real receipt as it hasn't been initialed by one of our crack security specialists, so we can't possibly refund you a 79.99 for a landscaping rock". Am I the only one to see the humor in this? (and no I didn't pay with cash).

I have seen the "autographers" count shoppers items in several different stores, including CUL.

one purpose is to prevent folks from 're-using' the receipt...getting a private 2-for-1 sale.

Anyone with a basic graphic design program and some thermal paper could scan and fudge up a Home Depot or Cost U More receipt in a few minutes...security sribble or not.

That's actually a very good reason. I guess I'm just not in the mindset to think of something like that. Autograph away my friends. Theft costs all of us in the long run.

I'm in the STT CUL a couple of times a week and Home Depot about once a week. Although often "autographed out" with very small purchases, the major and boxed purchases I've made have always been checked off quite meticulously. Now KMart can be VERY sloppy in this regard ...

Along the same lines, how about returns? I have returned many items to Kmart, etc., and they don't even look in the box. They just go ahead with the return. I opened a package of curtains while still in Kmart, deciding if I really wanted them, and there was a huge tear and dirt smear, like a footprint, on one of the curtains. Obviously, when they got torn and dirty, someone just returned them...no questions asked.

And always open the box and count the pieces for anything with moving parts! How often do we get it home, almost put together, THEN find out the "whatchamacallit" isn't there?
