I liked the old airport much better than the new one.
It may have been noisy but it had a certain "Caribbean Island" charm.
Plus it had chairs where one could wait for the delayed arriving flights.

As for Hugo - spent it on a sport fishing boat holed up in Culebra, tied to the mangroves. We survived as did the boats in the mangroves channels. Those not in the channel were not there the next day, they had been sunken, up on shore in houses, across the roads, or pancaked on top of each other.
Took us a week to get back to STT as we had to wait until sunken boats and missing persons could be accounted for.
Many could not be accounted for.
It was devastatingly horrendous and absolutely frightening.

I had never been thru something like that growing up on island and hoped never to see another Hurricane like that ........
and didn't until Marilyn in '95. We have been very lucky in the past years.
Hope we continue to be.
