McCain Jeered At Town Hall After Opposing Mass Deportation

One man yelled that only guns would discourage illegal immigration. Another man complained that illegal immigrants should never be able to become citizens or vote. A third man said illegal immigrants were illiterate invaders who wanted free government benefits.

The hypocritical problem is, your forefathers were probably illiterate immigrants.

Oh yeah can't forget this quote: McCain urged compassion. “We are a Judeo-Christian nation,” he said.

Can't remember but were the immigrants on Ellis Island given all the stuff DC is giving the folks crossing the borders today? Thanks, LBJ...

What, exactly, are the undocumented getting from the government? I'd be interested in specifics and not just common knowledge.

I don't believe ANY of that is true. Cite a source for even one of your contentions.

The High Cost of Cheap Labor: Illegal Immigration and the Federal Budget This study is one of the first to estimate the total impact of illegal immigration on the federal budget.
Most previous studies have focused on the state and local level and have examined only costs or tax payments, but not both. Based on Census Bureau data, this study finds that, when all taxes paid (direct and indirect) and all costs are considered, illegal households created a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of more than $10 billion in 2002. We also estimate that, if there was an amnesty for illegal aliens, the net fiscal deficit would grow to nearly $29 billion.

Dozens of articles, just Google "cost of illegal immigration".

But the statement wasn't that the government loses money on these people. The statement was that the undocumented themselves receive benefits that are not available to citizens and that is just not correct.

In most cases, those who are undocumented and work, do so using "papers" that are either forged or that belong to someone else. That means that they do pay taxes and into social security, but will receive no belefit from those payments.

And I'm not sure the Center for Immigration Studies is the best place to go for impartial informationj.

I believe it's all true. I've heard all the tricks they pull to work the system. For instance. Mexican women who are pregnant wait until the last minute to hop the fence. They give birth in theU.S. and they both automatically become citizens and get the health care on top of it. In the mean time millions of tax paying americans can't afford or can't get health care period.

Tiberius,
Mother and Baby do not become American Citizens, Baby only! Do you really think the mother "hops the fence"? All Americans get health care some free some pay. The people who don't know how to work the system I guess they go without medical care.

So the baby can stay but the mother has to leave?

And yeah. I really thought a woman who's nine months pregnant could hop a 18 foot fence.*-)

"Yup" Mom goes back to whatever country she came from with or without the baby, happens everyday. The baby is an American citizen by birth can return anytime. Oh and you stated the" hop the fence". Thanks for the wrong information.

I love this topic. I knew tons of illegals in the states. Some good friends of mine too. Do you know how they got to the states? With a passport and a plane ticket. They even fly home often to see family. There is ZERO accountability in the US for them. Get a job, a house, medical care, educations, whatever you want. There is zero need for them to become American and no reason to. No advantage.

Hoping fences and stealing jobs? What a joke.

Jamison,
Your Northeast roots are showing. The majority of illegals come via the boarder states daily without papers. I agree that hoping fences and stealing jobs is a stretch.

And Buy the way, Illegal is just that. Illegal.

Tiberius,
Jamison post "about stealing jobs' and hoping fences. If you just saw a pig fly past your window it conforms to your prior posts.

I know that in the south west it happens. I guess my point, which I didn't explain, because this topic irritates me, is that once here, everything is available. Try and get into Mexico and get a job and apartment and live free, it's not possible, because they hold businesses accountable, just like almost every other country in the world. America doesn't. It welcomes people with red carpets and open arms and then complains about them being there. It's a joke of an issue.

Don't think America welcomes illegals with red carpets and open arms. The volume of illegal immigrants is overwhelming. Our Boarder patrols can't handle the volume. Southern States pass laws and the Yankee States scream foul.*-)

wet foot/ dry foot policy bothers me a great deal. illegal cubans get special treatment for landing on dry land. no other group of illegals gets such a privilege. i personally do not agree with this policy. i think all immigrants should do it the legal way.

http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/news/2013/01/28/la-cracking-down-on-illegal-maternity-wards/

Dream Act CA, Texas and New Mexico.
Do you want to go Berkeley or UCLA for next to nothing? here's how.
Come the country illegally (no student or work or tourist visa).
Apply to a state university.
Get "in-state" tuition discount and NEEDS BASED FEDERALLY SUBSIDIZED FINANCIAL AID.
Out of state For CA school =55k per year
In State 35K
Illegal 3K out of pocket, state and federal grants, subsidized loans (and get this....work study).
When my daughter was interested in SD University, I told her she should shread her pass port and ss card and "hop the fence" because it would save me about $200K in out of state tuition.

And right all illegals pay taxes. Y'all issue 1099s to your lawn mower men and house cleaners right? Y'all make sure that all those work crews over on SJ vet the "workers" and put them on payroll, right? Cut me a break. It's the very rich that benefit from having cheep underclass of workers to boost profits and "do the work that Americans don want to"--like house cleaning.

And fellas, "hoping a fence" ain't nothing compared to child birth.

blu4u,
Talk to Tiberius, his statement only about women hoping a fence.

speee1dy,
Cubans are treated no different than the Italians landing on Ellis island. The term WOP is not a racial slur but a name for the Italian people who had no papers ( WOP means without papers). The policy was at the time, if they make it to dry land process them to stay unless sick.

There is a very large political club in Northern New Jersey today called (The Boat Jumpers) The Founders were Italians that jumped off the ship and swam to shore, They did this because they had no papers or were sick and afraid they would be sent back. Today you have to be invited by a member to attend their black tie money raising affairs.

just trying to point out that pregnant women are very capable of highly rigorous physical actiivity. It may not be healthy but it is doable. Providing US citizenship for your offspring and a us "anchor" for your entire family is very motivating. Heck, given the chance at all the freebies I may have been willing to climb a few fences. (But instead I worked my a$$ off to finish grad school) The current laws regarding 'birth rights" incentivize women to take unsafe chances with thier lives and the lives of thier newborns. And gues who gets to pay for the delivery and any resulting complications? And who gets to pay for the child's medical expenses, schooling, food stamps and HUD housing?

Hopping for Hope.
Hoping for Hop.

The conditions that these hopeful boarder hoppers endure are god awful......So very sad. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. And I'm not interested in supporting their kids either. If I had a ton of money maybe I'd feel differently. My own kids are my priority. Just like those women take risks and break the law to provide for thier kids, I have a cold heart when it comes to preserving my assest livelyhood to provide for my kids. The difference is I paly by the rules.
