Hi! I am moving to STT Sept 30th and my roommate is already there. We are both professional females in need of a 2-3 bedroom apartment in the $1200-$1800 range. I have a small 7lb dog that has been to obedience school and doesn't shed. Her breed is schnoodle. Please let us know of anything! It's getting down to the wire!

PM me any responses please!
Thanks!

-Jen

Jen- Your "room-mate" is already here so I'm not sure of the probem you're having finding something (and I'm taking the dog into consideration too!)

How well do you know this room-mate and has she/he done any local research whatsover?

At this time of year there is much available but that window is going to drop down bigtime in the next two months.

Much is not generally advertised but your friend should have been on top of it by now and looked at a bunch of different places available right now. And should have secured one by now...

Hope this helps.

She just arrived on island from Chicago and has been looking at places for the past 2-3 weeks. I am coming from Florida. There has been nothing suitable in our price range or that will take pets. She is in temporary housing and I too have a back up plan, but ideally we want to find a place together. I viewed several apartments on my PMV, but that was the beginning of August and most landlords were looking to rent immediately.

Hi Jen,

Good luck!

The rental market is really tough out there. I know this well, as my husband and I are renters while in the process of house-hunting (and please don't get me started on the UTTER INSANITY of the real estate market on STT right now). I just managed to find us another short-term rental that is quite nice, but believe me, it took a long time and a lot of searching.

Long story short, I know how tough it is out there and will be happy to keep an eye out for you. You are definitely doing the right thing by networking in every possible venue.

I did the very same thing you did a few months ago and was contacted by some very nice people with some great-sounding rentals. Had I been looking for something long-term, I certainly would have worked with one of the good people from this board.

Best,
Mell :)!

Jen,

Ask your roommate to check the various bulletin boards around the island. For example, if you are looking for a place on the North Side, there is a bulletin board at Hull Bay Hideaway and E & M Grocery (and probably several others that my fellow posters might be able to tell you about).

I know that there is a bulletin board at Red Hook Mail service on the East End, and I am sure there are many others around the island as well. You will often find postings for rentals (and lots of other interesting things) on these boards.

As far as bulletin boards, try Friendly's Grocery.
