Hey Guys!

Soo im in desperate need of some help getting my dog from Florida to St. Croix Hopefully in the next week. Any ideas? How bad is it to have a layover in Puerto Rico? I know for the airlines i have to keep temp under 85 which is hard to do this time of the year. I was trying to find an early morning or late night flight but cant seem to find any. Any suggestions? Thanks!

We did the scenario that you mention-we flew American Airlines in the morning from MIami, with a layover in PR, and then flew out of PR the next day, also in the AM. The temperature was a close call, but they let us fly and although our dog was not happy about the two flights, she made it just fine and is happy to be here running on the beaches. I have to say that the PR flight to STX is the least of the concerns. It is short, and they put the dog right up front near the pilot. It's the Miami to PR that is the most stressful. We did take a chance, since the tempuature during this time of year is right around or above 85, but we made it. Try American Airlines, they had flight both in the morning and night.

can you carry a small dog (chihuahua) as your carry-on luggage?

You should check with the airlines re carrying on a dog. Some restrict the number of such animals per flight.

Delta Airlines has a direct flight to STX, it was the best choice for the four animals I moved here. They also have a larger cargo area for larger dogs if that is an issue for you. It might be worth the drive to Atlanta, maybe evn less hours for your pet when you consider layover time.

American has a direct flight from MIA to STX around 12:30 daily, no lay-over problems in Puerto Rico, plus AA is very animal friendly. My dogs have frequent flyer milage, plus they really enjoy the air conditioned luggage hold. Last on - first off.
