Hi all,

I will be moving to St John in 2 weeks and need some help. I am looking for a one bedroom apartment walking distance of Cruz Bay with AC, internet, and preferably a Washer/Dryer. If anyone lives near Cruz Bay I would be especially grateful if you could write down some of the phone numbers at Connections for me of apartments available near Cruz Bay at $800-$1200 per month. I know this is a big favor to ask. I would much rather have a place lined up when I get down there than have to deal with staying at the Inn for a few days with money I could be spending on Rent. If you are willing to help me out Please PM me.

Thank you!

- Jason

Good morning Jason,

If you find someone to help you out, don't be surprised when you find that many people you contact about rentals simply will not call you back on a non-local phone number. Because of its size, St. John works a bit differently from the other USVIs -- and much differently from the continental U.S.! People want to know you a little in person before they rent to you.

Also keep in mind that what sounds ideal on paper might be available to you only because there's a good reason why no one local has rented the place already. The $ you will spend on staying at the Inn might well be a worthwhile investment in your transition. I don't wish to discourage you, as it is certainly possible to line up a place from off island (I've done it) -- but you will have a much easier time getting what you want if you start on island.

I see this is your first post, so I'm not sure whether you've been to STJ before or how long you plan to stay -- all are factors in finding the right place. Good luck to you!

doing a pmv is the right way to do it. but since you did not do it then the best way to look when you get there. I can't help you on STJ but if you want to stay by Sapphire Beach we rent out rooms for 100/night.

Goo luck!

Jason, try craigslists or the island trader. I do not live there yet, but will soon. I have researched the classifieds for sometime now and have decided to take the advice on here. I'm going to stay in one of the Inns for a few days and look when i get down there. I have discovered that on craigslist there have been people who take the photos and create there own and try to rent it to you, from Nigeria. I caught him and I'm glad because it was a scam. But that is not the only reason I'm waiting till i get there. If I'm going to spend money, first, last and security i want to make sure i like it and it fits me. Good luck in your search.

Thanks for the quick replies. I have been to St John many times before. As recently as March. I tried Craigslist and island trader but to no luck. I have heard from a lot of people not to rent a place sight-unseen so I am hoping that I will be able to line up a few visits the first day or two I am there. I have been reading this message board for a long time and all of the tips I have gotten on here have been very helpful. Thanks, and if you are near Connections please let me know.
