Good morning people, I have been reading this board for sometime and I finally have the opportunity to visit your fine island. I currently live in PR and am accustomed to island living, I am flying in on Tuesday for a job interview and need some "in a nut shell facts"

The job is working around the cruise ships, Just me, no spouse, pets, etc, will I be-able to find a short term rental within walking distance of the marina? If so, what price am I looking at? Is there public transportation? Besides taxi's, I just want to make sure this job is solid before I buy a car.

Where can I find information about marina wet slip fee's? I am considering driving my boat from PR to STT, its fully equipped, perhaps it would be cheaper to live on the boat at the marina than rent a apartment.

Are there any cyber cafes? I have read here that some apartments have Internet and some don't, its going to be imperative I stay on the net.

Thank-you in advance, I have tons of questions and most will be repetitive, I understand tourist season is upon us, this opportunity came out of nowhere I hope it flourishes.

Peter

I take it you are asking about St. Thomas. There is public transportation and cyber cafes. Someone else will have to fill you in on the rest.

Peter,
You're on the right forum. There are posters from all islands on here.
Regarding living arrangements, if your boat is comfortable, and self-contained, you can live aboard, at anchor or on a mooring, and dinghy into shore. That's the cheapest way to go!

Thanks, that is what I want to hear, I will be on island the 27th and want to visit a few marinas, I'm more interested in a wet slip than a mooring, but I have to be close to where the cruise ships come in.....I don't have all the data on my possible future job until Tuesday...American Yacht Harbor wants 1.25 a foot, I wonder if I could find a room mate...do you think anyone would like to share a 53 foot Bertram?

Peace.

Peter

There are modified pickup trucks called dollar buses or dollar taxis around the island. They travel from downtown Charlotte Amalie to Redhook at the east end for $2. You can catch one where ever there is a VITRAN bus sign (white with a yellow and orange logo). Ask the driver about the fare when you board as there is no visible difference between a tourist taxi and a dollar bus. The tourist taxis will not stop at the designated bus stops however.
