Hi again,

Just a thought. When we do move down to the island II would really like to become a member of the community and make new friends. Does anyone know about different kind of groups to become involved with on StJ. I am not very religious but I am open to learning new things and volunteering my time. I am a big fan of animals, sports, education and art. Thoug I can not carry a tune, play an instrument or shake my tail feather! Thanks for any input!

Sarah

P.S. My husband does do role playing history games with miniatures he paints and builds scenery for to create games. He would love to get a group started as he will be leaving his group here!

thanks Trade,

I just went to the site and wrote down a list of supplies they need. I will go to target tomorrow and put together a box. My mother really appreciated seeing the bowls of food and water out for the cats. I will just need to call for an address. I was surprised they did not have one on the site unless I missed it. At least I can do something now for them!

Hello Sarah,

For arts you could try the St. John School of the Arts (340)779-4322, they may have some volunteer opportunities.

Try Friends of the National Park, http://www.friendsvinp.org/, they have volunteer opportunities and perhaps they would be interested in working with your husband on a VI/St. John history, miniatures, educational type project.

There are a few annual sport events; walking/running, bike, swimming. There is some information on this at
http://www.8tuffmiles.com/ and the Beach to Beach Power-swim you can find on the Friends of the NP site.

Wagapalooza is a dog show on St. John, annual, volunteers welcome. Check the site at http://www.wagapalooza.com/ and click on Contact Us; the mailing address and contact information for the Animal Care Center is listed there.

Again Thank You Islander for the care and advice!

Great suggestions. In February, my husband and I ran the 5.5 mile tune up race before the 8 tuff miles actual race. I enjoyed it so much but my husband found walking a little easier! I love exercising in the great heat of the island- lose muscles!
