I am looking for a cat, or even 2 cats.

Does anyone know of any that need a good home? I will go to the shelter, but I thought I would ask here first.

Thanks,
Suzette

Hi Suzette.
Funny you should ask...
a kitty just came to our door last weekend, but I think we are keeping him (#4).
BUT I have recently made contact with some folks who have a foster program of sorts...maybe I could ask for you? 2 cats would be awesome b/c you could have siblings. I have 2 brothers and their bond is unparalleled.

Either way, I am sure the shelter definitely has kitties/cats needing a forever home. Have fun and watch your feet!!!

Which island are you on? Dr Casey at Progressive Vet. had a ad on his bulletin board for cats looking for a good home. Try your local vet's office if you don't want to try the shelter. 🙂

Siblings would be ideal ! Preferably brothers. I had Calvin and Hobbs years ago, got them as kittens and the big cat kept them in line (sorta). They were so much fun !
Yes, please ask for me and send me a PM if you need my phone number.
Thanks so much !

I may have missed where you are, I do know that at Nisky Mailboxes across from Nisky center in the building where the PX is located...the owner of the mailbox company just had some kittens and I know he has about 12 or 15 cats....last I talked to him he was looking for homes for at least a couple of the beasts...

Have you gotten your cats/kittens yet? I belong to a group of volunteers who are now starting a new organization on St. Thomas for feral animals (Feral Animal Coalition of the Virgin Islands - FACVI). A few days ago, two darling, lovable, purring grey kittens about 6-8 weeks old were found, (brother and sister, we think). Their mom was no where in sight. Is there a possibility you would/could take them?

Anyone else? Thanks!
Kathe

We're all set, thanks. We wanted grown-up cats, I love kitties but they're more work... Onika gave me the name of someone to call, and now we're just waiting for my husband to have the time to go with me to get them.

I saw Dellia this weekend Suzette and I am so glad it is going to work out!
I hear you on kitties being more work. The new kittie we adopted is killing my feet, but he is super cute!

Kathe--you should put a notice up on the classifieds section of this site. You may get some takers! If I weren't already up to 4, I would consider it.

I'm absolutely brand new at "message boards" and such. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into the classified section next. But keep your ear to the ground for someone who wants two DARLING tiny gray kittens.

FYI: Dellia (of Cat Cafe) is well aware of the new endeavor - Feral Animal Coalition of the Virgin Islands - FACVI - Mike of FACVI has worked with Dellia on cat feeding projects.

Kathe -

Can you give some more info about FACVI? And is it only on STT? I know there was a huge feral cat population on STX as well.

Kathe,

I too would like more info on FACVI. Who runs it and do you work with the Humane Society and/or a vet? Do they spay or neuter all cats before adopting them out? Very important if you want the system to work.

Kathe--to add to the chorus of voices...tell us more!
BTW, I just met Dellia this weekend. I don't have time to give but am donating food. Is your group concentrated in any particular area of the island?

Every time I see this subject line I think that some one wants a beatnik or two as a tenant. Showing my advanced age, I suppose. 😉

I mean, cool Daddy-O...

SUCCESS! The two kittens were adopted!

I was going to ask Jenny to respond regarding FACVI since I have the flu and in front of the computer isn't where I want to be. As I said, we are in the beginning stages... filing Articles of Incorporation for a Non-profit Organization soon. We do not (and most likely will not) have a shelter for adoptions. The main emphasis of FACVI is T-N-R; Trap, Neuter, Release and no-kill of healthy animals. We also feed those colonies. That's where Dellia may come in with Cat Cafe'. The St. Thomas Humane Society helps us out with SNAP papers for discounts from the vets. (Dellia helps out there too - a lot!) Mike has been trapping at Sapphire, taking them to Dr. Moore, then releasing; last I knew he was up to 7 cats. FACVI has a website www.FACVI.org, but it is "a work in progress". There is also a bulletin board at: www.usvibb.com. Did I mention the email? FeralAnimals@yahoo.com . St. John Animal Care has been very helpful; sharing information. Soon there will be ads in the Island Trader asking for volunteers, donations, membership. Thank you for your interest in Feral Animal Coalition of the Virgin Islands!

ROFL East Ender ! Too funny ! Now I can't see this post without thinking of it that way !!!

Onika, thanks so much for hooking me up with Delia who in turn hooked me up with a woman named Alexandra. We picked up 2 of Dottie's cats, Nicolette and Squeaky, at the Humane Society this morning. (Dottie had 12 cats of her own, and fed hundreds of strays, she devoted her life to them. There will be an article about her soon in the Daily News)
Squeaky is scared and won't come out from under the bed. Nicolette has been wandering in and out of the house, and comes in to check if the food and water is still there about every 20 minutes. I think we are all going to be very happy up here in the clouds.
The hardest part was leaving behind so many cats and dogs. My husband spent lots of time with the dogs. I don't think it will be too much longer before our next trip there !
