DishNetwork Local Channel Waiver

Good morning everyone.

Just wondering if anyone with Dish Network has been granted a waiver to receive local channels on STX.

We recently bought a very expensive Dish Network installation and signed up for the most complete channel package available. We did not find out until the day we activated the account that local channels are not included, not only no local, but no ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX. Also, we only get about half of the 280 channels we are paying for.

I contacted Dish who told me to call All American Direct to get the local/network channels. All American said we need to apply for a waiver from the local channels. She was not able to tell me if there was a physical location problem or if it was simply economic. She offered to apply for the waivers for a one time charge of $10, which I gladly paid.

I admit to still being a little fuzzy. Has anyone else experienced this issue and how was it resolved?

Thanks for any input.

As far as I kow, the Dish Network lost a lawsuit that forced them to cease using the broadcast networks in channel offerings because they refused to pay for the right to do so.....At least thats the last I heard several months ago.

OK, you didn't hear this from me but I do know people who have changed their "address" to one stateside and then received local programming from that locale (including NBC, et al).

Also, you are only getting half the channels b/c Dish operates with 2 sats: 110 and 119. You need the big 6' IN ADDITION TO YOUR CURRENT SIZE DISH to get channels from the 110.

The only local one that won't give a waiver is Channel 8, ABC.

Thanks, everybody.

Onika, wouldn't I need to get the waivers from my new "address" local channels?
