Currently off-island, wondering if there is any feedback on Seaside Market and Deli yet.

From the facebook pictures it looks sort of like Gourmet Gallery(s) stores here on STT and probably will have the prices to match. High!
But hey, enjoy a brand new, clean store while you can.

Nice meat counter and deli. They have a salad bar. Some things pricy some thing same as Plaza. The deli had a great sandwich but it was a bit much for what I got. I think it will be a success. They seemed to have a very good staff.

Overall, the nicest looking food store on STX. When you first walk in you're hit with a most beautiful produce section. There were fruits and vegetables that I only dream about since moving here. 3 kinds of fresh asparagus, all kinds of cherries and melons. The bakery looked like most of the goods were brought in probably frozen but free samples of pâtés were excellent.

The meat counter had the usual suspects but all looked fresh and good. The fish section was my least favorite. Trout, Scottish salmon, etc. looked tired and a bit old - but we'll see. Huge selection of wine, cheese, liquors etc. Good freezers of ready made food, ice cream, you name it. Also a sandwich bar.....didn't check the menu or prices.

The store is gorgeous and lets hope the variety continues and is not just a come-on for opening day. The prices are a bit higher than Plaza, I think. But, at least I can enjoy paying for something I like rather than WAPA. Go see for yourself and please give us a report.

I stopped in for a Holy Smoke at the Deli. A little more expensive than it was in the past, a little differently made, but a damn good sandwich.

So nice to see things on STX starting to return to normal.

Stopped in this morning to see what all the hoopla was about! Have been watching the construction for a couple of months and yes the store is very nice inside, as is the parking lot. I think a better name for the store would have been Cost-U-More!

They do have what looked to be a help yourself salad bar.....$8.99lb.

Gallon of milk $7.40. It's $5.99 Plaza and $4.99 at Pueblo. Most of the wine is $2 more a bottle than at Plaza.
Green peppers $2.49lb. Lettuce $2.49 Head. The list goes on......just a few things we picked up.......and put right back down.

Did not pick up anything that was less than at Plaza.

So, if you live on the East End and need a few groceries and don't want to make that LONG trip over the bypass, have at it.

For those who have checked out the new store:
Did they have any unusual grocery items that you cannot find anywhere else on island? The Avis article showed rambutans and mentioned other exotic fruits. But I also wonder if they have specialty gourmet items worth a little bit extra $. I'll check it out this weekend.

The flat peaches are available at Plaza.

I'll bet that they use the same distributor/wholesaler.

Do they actually taste like peaches?
Haven't had a good one yet on island/STT.
Flat round or whatever nor do they have any scent of peaches.
My sister brings me back some when she comes from FL and that's how I get my paech fix, twice a yr.
They smell, ripen and taste like REAL peaches which is more than I can say for ANYTHING purchased on island.

Went yesterday....reminds me of Gourmet Gallery on St. Thomas (Schooner Bay was on it's way out by the time I moved over here from STT, so can't compare there). Certainly prices for most things, seemed more expensive than Plaza but I will definitely shop there some since it is so close to home and work for me! Very nice staff 🙂 Alana33, I have not had a good peach either here on STX or STT for 7 years! Miss my NC peaches from the Sandhills (some of the best EVER!) - was just discussing with my mom about how they are all coming in right now and she told me they are some of the best she has ever eaten this year...SO jealous!!! All in all, I was very happy to see the cleanliness of the new store and the helpfulness of the staff. I will do my part to help support them!

I found their prices comparible to Food Town's! Prices were more than Plaza or Pubelo's, but, more in line with Food Town.

Love how organized and stocked this place is. The wines are organized by region; finally a place you can find wine easily!

Went yesterday to check it out.
It is a nice store. Everyone was super friendly.
I only purchased 3 items, I thought the prices were way too high.
I did love the wine section, but very expensive.
I ended up stopping at Pueblo, better prices on the stuff I needed.
I would only return to buy something from the bakery or to buy a special bottle of wine.
It is a nice store for the tourist staying out East.

Lets be clear on the strategy...the store is being positioned as a gourmet market. Its not meant to be the same as Plaza or Pueblo otherwise why would they bother. I won't shop there for everyday groceries, but I will shop there for the bakery, veggies and sandwiches.

Does Seaside give the same 5% AARP discount that Plaza does?

The store might be positioned as a gourmet market, but I found it to be closer to Plaza Extra than to the old, good Schooner Bay. There were a handful of gourmet items, but not that much as far as I could see. I went down every aisle, hoping to see stuff I can't find at Plaza or Food Town, and I didn't see much of anything new. Other than the wines, the deli and the bakery section, I didn't see much that I consider to be gourmet.

Yes, I asked for and received the 5% discount and the checker never blinked.

Its highly unlikely...the families are related. I'm sure they have worked out who gets what piece of the pie well in advance.
