Just a PMV update, I landed at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday and picked up an island trader paper, I called four numbers for rentals, all four returned my call. Out of the four, one was better than the rest, studio near mountain top, new appliances, modern clean, excellent view, balcony with parking, elec and water included, $850.....sold! After talking to these people, asking questions then comparing their description to what actually exists.....I would never rent something site unseen, I had good luck and hope everyone else does as well in the New Year to come!

That's very cheap considering it includes electricity and water. Is it attached to a private home?

Peter: Your advice :" After talking to these people, asking questions then comparing their description to what actually exists.....I would never rent something sight unseen" is what some of us have been trying to get across to newcomers for years. Thanks for reiterating it- and welcome to the funhouse! 😉

Thanks! I've already made several new friends and many contacts! Trade-yes the apt is below a larger house, the landlord is a retired single gentleman and we hit it off right away. I won't arrive until the 3rd of 08, he said he would open up let it air out, turn the fridge on and have a cold 6-pak waiting....SWEET! Hows that?

EE, that rule should always be followed, for example, previously I have asked questions about living above the airport, seems allot of rentals in the area, well, you won't have to worry about jet noise cause several of the places were down in a basin, nothing to see but foliage and absolutely no breeze! If you ask the landlord to descibe the property its an island paradise, minutes from town with no need for a.c.!

Peace and prosperity!

And yet, I have been in homes above the airport with a beautiful view, breezy and peaceful. Again, you have to look at each property!

Thanks Kim, it was a stroke of good luck! I put a few miles on the ole shoes but it came together in the end.

Just in, a call from a person offering affordable housing, 340-513-8373 Juliet has a nice furnished studio on the east end electricity included for $650 a month!

HI! How exciting! I am about to take the plunge as well. I am targeting arriving in STX 2/1. Is this place near Christiansted? Also, what is PMV? Thanks! Michelle

They are discussing St Thomas, not St Croix. PMV is Pre Move Visit .
